From the brothers behind local legend Ham Cafe in Cronulla comes Homer Rogue Taverna—a gritty, graffiti-streaked Greek restaurant plating up a plethora of meats, seafood, vegetables, and traditional woodfired flatbread.

The unconventional, 100-seat venue has a laid-back approach to dining reminiscent of an Athens taverna. Decked out with an open-plan kitchen, Rocaro granite benchtop, frosted glass, exposed brick walls, popcorn ceilings, and mid-century modern touches, the space screams industrial-chic.

Co-owners Harry and Mario Kapoulas are leaning into the beach-town vibe Cronulla has to offer: “We want people to feel comfortable to wander up from the beach, but still knowing they’ll be getting restaurant-quality food and wine.”

Family recipe dishes, small plates and charcoal-roasted souvla are on the pass, brought out in no particular order. Must-orders include Homer’s signature gyros, Manouri cheese baked with hot honey and kataifi, and a grilled souvlaki octopus recipe from Kapoulas’ grandparents.

The staff are non-uniformed, with guests encouraged to handpick their own wines from the three-metre-tall, custom-built fridges, housing a large selection of predominantly Greek labels and the world's oldest grape varietals, available by the glass.

There's also a cocktail menu starring $10 martinis, ouzo, and a See Through Pornstar crowned with champagne foam, all prepared at the open bar. And in collaboration with Young Henrys, the crew have created their own beer: Homer’s Epic Lager, available exclusively at HRT.
