Jōji is a Sydney CBD rooftop bar by the group behind Aalia, Nour, Ito and Henrietta, open until 2am nightly.

On top of the glitzy Cartier flagship store on the corner of George and King Streets, the late-night destination with a cocktail lounge, dining room and large terrace takes inspiration from Japan across its cocktail and food menus.

Cocktails reflect the Japanese principles of simplicity (shibui), imperfection (wabi sabi), and creativity (datsuzoku), with experimental ingredients and combinations in creations like the Bamboo with tequila, tomato and apricot. Japanese classics like whisky highballs and saké are also on offer alongside classic cocktails, wines and Japanese and Aussie beers.

“We’ve designed the menu to be versatile, and utterly delicious, so whether guests are dropping in for a light snack, a full meal, or a late-night bite, JŌJI offers something that fits every occasion. It’s about creating a space where you can come for any event, any kind of outing, and feel at home”, says ESCA Group executive chef Paul Farag.

The menu is split into raw, not raw and robata sections with highlights like a scallop and bug sando with pickled cabbage and mayo, quail and pork jowl tsukune with shiitake koji and fresh herbs cooked on a custom two-metre robata grill, and beef tartare on a potato hash with nashi pear. Uni and caviar can be added to select dishes for a bougie upgrade, and there’s a post-10pm menu including a burger cradling a Japanese Wagyu bolognese.

The space features metallic elements to reflect the Sydney CBD lights, deep burgundy red tones, and Tasmanian blackwood details for a modern and moody interior vibe, with regular live DJs and vinyl selectors providing the soundtrack. You can book a table at Jōji online.
