Port Stephens has scored a sleek new coastal escape, Marina Resort, just in time for summer.

Once a dated seaside block from the ’80s, the building has been reborn as a sun-soaked retreat that feels more Byron Bay than Nelson Bay. Designed by Melbourne’s Stella Collective for the DOMA Hotels group, the 48-room resort marks a fresh chapter for the area’s accommodation scene, pairing refined design with timeless, barefoot luxury.

The property’s centrepiece is a 25-metre north-facing pool, edged with cabanas, daybeds and a pool bar serving cocktails, wines, and light snacks—ideal for the days when you just feel like doing nothing (drink in hand).

Inside, Stella Collective’s design philosophy takes cues from nature, using travertine, pale timber, and linen to create a seamless link between the coast outside and the calm interiors within. The look is soft and organic, built around longevity and connection to place—think The Calile Hotel meets Hotel Sorrento, but with a more relaxed regional pace.

Guests can choose between Garden Terrace and Ocean View rooms, along with suites and two-bedroom configurations. Each space is kitted out with Grown Alchemist amenities and a muted, timeless palette. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame ocean views, while the ground-level terraces open directly onto landscaped gardens.

Beyond the pool deck, the location is unbeatable. The marina and Nelson Bay’s foreshore are an easy stroll away, and Shoal Bay (home to the namesake Country Club and the Tomaree Mountain walk) is just a short drive away.

With Bannisters and The Anchorage already raising the bar, Marina Resort cements Port Stephens as a serious player in Australia’s new wave of luxury coastal accomodation.
