Oncore by Clare Smyth is a sparkling Sydney restaurant on level 26 of Crown Tower in Barangaroo. The quintessential fine diner is an Aussie outpost of Clare Smyth’s eponymous London restaurant which has retained three Michelin Stars for a few years running.

Known for her dishes that balance simplicity and sophistication while showing the utmost respect to producers and growers, Smyth enlisted head chef Alan Stuart to steer her culinary style in the Sydney restaurant, with well-known dishes like Potato and Roe getting the Australian treatment; the Sydney version uses spuds produced by fourth-generation farmers from the Southern Highlands.

With sweeping views to Sydney’s west and over Sydney Harbour to the east, the dining room at Oncore by Clare Smyth boasts floor-to-ceiling windows (so every seat in the house is a good one) and an overall soft, feminine feel thanks to curved edges, soft furnishings and immaculate details at every turn. The kitchen is semi-open so you can peep the chefs in action, and the playlist is... unexpected, but lots of fun. There's also a semi-private dining room behind a curtain for groups of up to 12—one for a seriously special occasion.

The Oncore by Clare Smyth menu revolves around two main offerings: the Classic menu ($340pp) with Aussie translations of well-known Clare Smyth dishes and now-favourites unique to the Sydney location, and the Seasonal menu ($395pp). Both include a generous and enticing spread of snacks to begin and remarkably presented petit fours to finish.

At lunchtime, a three-course choice menu is also available for $250pp, representing a great way to experience the spoils of the world-class kitchen team with more funds left over for another glass of wine; a 3000-strong bottle cellar covers “old, fine and rare to young, new and exciting” with the goal to represent the diversity and vibrancy of the world of wine today. Wine pairings are available for both set menus for $220pp.

There’s also a dedicated bar space at Oncore by Clare Smyth, which we reckon is one of the best Sydney dining hacks: if you left it too late to book or can’t fork out the funds or time for the full dining room experience, Oncore’s bar has a comprehensive and creative cocktail offering (as well as the whole wine list) with a dedicated food menu that’s up to the restaurant’s standard. Often, walk-ins are available, or you can book to enjoy a cocktail as the sun sets over Sydney Harbour before your meal.

Bookings are released at the start of each month two months in advance (e.g. March bookings open 1 January), and in-demand timeslots do get snapped up early.
