If you’re a budding photographer but aren’t sure if you want to spend thousands on a high-end digital camera just yet, you may want to consider getting something less advanced as a stepping stone into the hobby. To help you take those important first steps, Fujifilm has launched a brand new Instax camera that combines the immediacy of instant film with the versatility of digital photography—the Instax Wide Evo.

The Instax Wide Evo camera is a hybrid camera that is both an instant film camera and a smartphone printer. It also features a Wide Angle Mode that allows you to zoom out further than other Fujifilm Instax cameras, allowing you to capture more. With the LCD monitor on the back of the camera, you can see your subject clearly, and even select which photos you want to print on demand.
It also allows for more photo customisation with 10 lens effects and 10 film effects that can be combined to create 100 different shooting effects. You can also adjust the intensity of the lens effects by increasing and decreasing things like light and colour, so you can customise your photos before you print them.

Like other instant cameras, the Wide Evo needs film to function, and this one uses Fujifilm's “Instax Wide”. The camera itself and the film are expensive compared to other instant shooters, but its hybrid functionality and versatility of features make it a good option for people who are looking to explore their passion for photography a bit more.
If a DSLR or mirrorless camera is out of your price range but you're looking to try something a bit more advanced than a basic instant film camera, the Instax Wide Evo could be what you're looking for. You can pick up Fujifilm's Instax Wide Evo for $599 from select retailers.

If you want to try your luck, you can also go in the running to win one of three Instax Wide Evo Cameras. All you need to do is follow @fujiinstaxaus on Instagram, send a photo that captures an "iconic Australian place, moment or object" to that account via DM, and tag a friend’s social media account in the Fuji Instax Aus’ Instagram post from 21 February 2025. The competition ends on 5 March, so make sure you get your entry in quickly.
