The Anaconda Movie Trailer Has Dropped—And It Looks Every Bit As Ridiculous As We Hoped

TBH, we’ll watch pretty much anything that has Paul Rudd in it (swoon). So, when we found out that the new Anaconda movie would combine Rudd’s comedic charms with Jack Black and Queensland’s stonking landscapes… we were sold. (Do cinemas let you pre-order tickets 3 months in advance? If so, we’re totally in.)

Last week, the first official trailer for Anaconda dropped, and it looks as spectacularly ridiculous and action-packed as we hoped it would be. In a nutshell, the story is about two best friends who decide to remake their favourite movie (1997’s Anaconda—duh) as part of a bizarre midlife crisis. But, as they set off into the Amazon jungle to film, the cast and crew come face to face with a real-life giant anaconda snake, and hell breaks loose. It’s giving us Tropic Thunder meets Predator, and we’re here for it on every level.

The 2025 Anaconda remake is directed by Tom Gormican (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent), and the cast includes Paul Rudd, Jack Black, Thandiwe Newton (my gosh, do we love her), and White Lotus’s Steve Zahn (also known as Phoebe’s not-so-gay ice dancer husband in Friends).

Although the story is set in the Amazon, the Anaconda movie was actually filmed in Queensland (woop woop). Keen-eyed Aussies will be able to spot several local landmarks like Purling Brook Falls, Tambourine Mountain, and the Gold Coast rainforest and hinterland in general. Terrifyingly massive man-eating snake-beast aside, this could be great hiking inspo for your next Queensland getaway.

Anaconda will be released in cinemas across Australia on December 26, 2025. If you feel the need to watch the original 1997 Anaconda first, you can stream it for free on 7+.
