Anchovy Bandit
3/98 Prospect Road, Prospect
Image Credit: Anchovy Bandit | Facebook
One of the very coolest pizza joints in town, Anchovy Bandit is named for a Tarantino screenplay, so of course the set menu comes in Short Film or Director’s Cut options–but both include pizzas in your sharing spread. This place is a passion project, so they do the classics well, including a pepperoni, provolone, jalapeno with hot honey, as well as bougie originals like a spicy king prawn and nduja with olives and fior di latte, or zucchini and pesto with whipped feta and za’atar. Their purpose-made crust dips really level up those puffed and speckled “pizza bones” at the end of a meal, with garlic butter, taramasalata and XO mayo to pick from. Extra points for offering diet-friendly menu alternatives.
INSIDER INTEL:
- Sip mini Negronis and Martini shots alongside their Italo-inflected wine list with predominantly local offerings by the glass.
Sunny’s Pizza
17 Solomon Street, Adelaide
Image Credit: Sunny's Pizza | Facebook
Are they good? The proof is in the 48-hour-proved pizza dough, my friends. They’ve got eight pizzas (“disco discs”, as they call them), including two pepperoni variations (spicy and not spicy), an earthy mushroom with smoked scamorza, thyme and garlic confit, a fancy four-cheese, an Italian sausage and even an eggplant parmigiana. A bevvy of spritzes, fizz and Margaritas dominates the cocktail menu, plus fun wines and easy-drinking beers. Perfect.
INSIDER INTEL:
- If you and your crew can’t decide, the Need For Feed set gives you a selection from their pizza menu and their “not pizza” menu (i.e. French fries, spiced chicken tenders, wood-fired brussels sprouts and more).
One Sneaky Cheetah (Melrose Park, Ridleyton, Stepney, Campbelltown, Modbury)
243 South Road, Ridleyton
Image Credit: One Sneaky Cheetah | Facebook
This fun local chain takes its pizza-making seriously. Their “made from scratch” sauce is a labour of love with pickled, crushed and simmered local Roma tomatoes, and all pizzas are hand-stretched. As well as the margherita and four-cheese staples, they run some jazzed-up house specialties inspired by Aussie local takeaway pizzas, like Ham & Pineapple, Meatlovers, Smoky BBQ Chicken and Supreme. The Buffalo Chicken pizza is served with house-made ranch sauce, and they’ve also got extra dipping sauces available for your pizza pleasure.
INSIDER INTEL:
- Top it off with a Garlic Cheetah Tail bread, and that’s a night of nostalgia.

Square Slice Pizza at Crafty Robot
180 Grote Street, Adelaide
Image Credit: Square Slice Pizza | Instagram
This small-batch brewery slings thick Detroit-style pies via its in-house kitchen, Square Slice Pizza. Think, fluffy square slices with a crunchy cheese “crown” around the edges (the trick? Pans imported straight from Michigan, of course). The Buzzbomb with sopressa, mozzarella and hot honey is a signature, but creative specials include their ever-popular Big sMac, a Big Mac-inspired slice complete with a crunchy lettuce garnish, Lamb Bam Thank You Ma’am with 12-hour low and slow ras el hanout and amber lager braised lamb shoulder, a Reuben sandwich-esque Dr Katz pie and even a Banhi Mi-inspired topping. This, a few fresh beers and a dog-and-kid-friendly dining space, and that’s you set for a few good hours.
INSIDER INTEL:
- Save some pennies with the Friday and Sunday lunch special. Pizza and a pint for just $33.
Francesca’s
Brighton & Glenelg
Image Credit: Francesca's Pizza | Instagram
Ever struggled to eat a slice on the run? A “wallet pizza” could be the answer to your woes. Francesca’s serves a specialty known as “pizza a portafoglio”. These soft and saucy Neapolitan slices are folded over to grab on the go, available in either salami or margherita. It’s a practical mindset you’d expect from a shop that also specialises in sandwiches, generous fillings stuffed between fluffy house-made focaccia. If you’re sitting in for the full pie, they also do Neapolitan and Sicilian (thinner, crispy, rectangular) pizzas, with specialty toppings like Tony Falco (nduja, mozzarella, parmesan, red onion, chilli flakes, breadcrumbs and basil) and El Guapo (Italian sausage, dry-aged mozzarella, red onion, capsicum, pecorino and jalapeños).
INSIDER INTEL:
- It's all about the dough, so don't sleep on the focaccia sandos stacked high with cured meats, fresh cheese and plenty of herbs.
Ballaboosta
289 Halifax Street, Adelaide
“Where Mediterranean meets the Middle East”. Housed in a repurposed, refurbed laundromat space, the CBD Ballaboosta has a menu dominated by Lebanese flavours, from shish tawook chicken skewers to hommus and baba ghanouj dips with pita, mezze dishes, fattoush salad and custardy knafeh pastries for dessert. But the pizza plays an equal part alongside, steering quite close to traditional styles like margherita and pepperoni, a vego melanzane, and the Hawaiian ham-and-pineapple pizza has been zhuzhed up and re-Christened the Queenslander (perfect, honestly). All hot out of the woodfired oven with that fresh, chewy crust.
INSIDER INTEL:
- Don't waste your crusts, use them to scoop up your dips.
Lucia's Pizza & Pasta Bar
Shop 3-4 Western Mall, Adelaide Central Market
Image Credit: Lucia's Pizza & Pasta Bar | Facebook
This is one of Adelaide’s OGs. Lucia’s has been sharing southern Italian cuisine in the heart of Adelaide Central Market since 1957. It’s kept that soul and old-school decor: black and white chequered floor, bright orange tables and dark wood, walls lined with jars, bottles, pastas and pastries. If you can tear yourself away from the famous paninis next door, you’ll see a dedicated pizza menu. These are traditional deep pan, small and thick pizzas (easy to tackle on your own). The toppings are simple and solid Italian, like margarita, mushroom, prosciutto with buffalo mozzarella and their Special with mozzarella, anchovies and olives. Bump it up to an Extra Special, the same but with added ham, mushrooms, roast capsicum and pineapple.
INSIDER INTEL:
- Grab a slice to share with a friend and do a snacking tour of the Market aisles.
Yellow Matter
18/120 Marion Road, Brooklyn Park
Image Credit: Yellow Matter | Facebook
This Brooklyn Park brewery has the kind of stylish fitout you’d expect from a boutique or high-end cafe, from light walls, archways and pale timber to the striking red-and-white pool table. The pizzas feel similarly spruced up. Hand-stretched dough with beautifully blistered crusts hosts an array of topping specials. Past hits include chipotle pineapple barbecue sauce with pulled pork, smoked scamorza, pickled jalapeños and anchovy salsa verde; smoked stracciatella, artichoke spread, purple potato and chilli crisp, and provolone, pancetta, olive tapenade, pecorino, basil, roasted capsicum and chilli sauce.
INSIDER INTEL:
- The approachable taplist is a perfect balance, with lagers, XPA, ales and sours to wash down your 'zza.
Valentino’s 101
101 Grenfell Street, Adelaide
Need a slice swiftly? In case you haven’t heard, a “tavalo calda” is the lunchtime grab-and-go levelled up with an Italian flourish. Part antipasti bar, part pizzeria, part coffee and pastry shop, Valentino’s 101 channels the mid-century Roman aesthetic with fast-paced hospitality. They serve up a Roman-style slice to match–a hefty wedge of fluffy dough with a mound of toppings. They’ve also been known to run delightful pizza and chips/salad combo deals.
INSIDER INTEL:
- Valentino's 101 is also a full trattoria and bar with wine, beer and aperitivo-style cocktails.
Est Ovest
Shop 1/111 Angas Street, Adelaide
Image Credit: Est Ovest | Facebook
This CBD spot scooped up some international recognition for their pizzas, placing in the Italian-based Top 50 Pizza list for the Asia Pacific in 2025. While they specialise in cucina povera dishes of rural Italian peasants, their simple pizzas use high quality ingredients. The signature Est Ovest, for instance, features a mushroom medley, a cheese mix of fior di latte, stracciatella and buffalo ricotta, 20-month-aged prosciutto, fresh parsley and truffle oil. Pizza Fritta is another specialty: the fried calzone with fillings like fior di latte, Italian ham, pork and fennel sausage, mortadella, ricotta with Grana Padano and San Marzano tomato.
INSIDER INTEL:
- Want pizza for dessert, too? Zeppoline are deep-fried sugar-coated mini pizza dough balls with sweet toppings, or there’s the Nutella pizza (of course).
