The day has finally come. You knew it would. And now it’s here. A crocodile was actually in the hotel pool.

For anyone who ever feared their hotel pool might harbour a crocodile, it turns out that fear was not only valid, it was prophetic. Over the weekend, a juvenile croc was filmed chilling in the lagoon‑style pool at a five‑star resort in Port Douglas.

Yeah, not doing great over here, thanks for asking.

Alongside your other childhood phobias of quicksand, scarab beetles, avalanches, and spontaneous human combustion, the chances of a crocodile actually being in the hotel pool are low. But never zero.

Guests captured the visitor on TikTok, calmly noting “I don't want to alarm anyone,”–which is a wild choice of words–while others lounged nearby as if spotting nature’s perfect killing machine was just another part of the holiday package. For lifelong crocodile worriers, this was vindication at last.

Queensland wildlife rangers responded swiftly after a report via the QWildlife app and removed the crocodile on 18 October. Warning signs have now been installed, reminding visitors that, in tropical north Queensland, a hotel pool is never entirely just a hotel pool.
