Keen for a day trip filled with copious amounts of wine? Say no more—you’ll find wine aplenty atop Mount Tamborine, just an hour away from Brisbane and the Gold Coast and the starting point to the Scenic Rim. Not just home to breath-taking scenery, delicious food and multiple waterfall walks, it’s also the place to sip through endless cellar doors at the multiple wineries that reside on and around the mountain.
So find yourself a designated driver, or better yet, book yourself some overnight accommodation nearby, and prepare to sip your way through a DIY wine tour at our top Mount Tamborine winery picks.
Witches Falls Winery
We’ll be honest—Witches Falls Winery is our favourite on the mountain, and we can never resist a pit stop when we’re in the area. Does it have something to do with the fact that you can taste your way through six of their drops for just $15? Maybe—but it’s also their epic DIY cheese boards, stunning surrounds, live musicians on weekends and relaxed vibes. The fact that their extensive rage of wines are some of the best in the region is just a bonus.
Cedar Creek Estates
Famous for their picturesque weddings, Cedar Creek Estates will transport you to another world—hopefully one in Europe, on top of an actual mountain. This Tamborine winery has the largest range of wines in the hinterland, with something to suit everyone and their palate. Not sure which one is for you? Guess you’ll just have to try them all. There’s also an onsite restaurant if you’re in need of a long lunch.
Hampton Estate Wines
Wine, dine and play at this award-winning oasis, where you can enjoy stunning views as sip on a sparkling rosé from Hampton Estate Wines expansive lawn. Between glasses you can play a game of bocce or finska on the grass, or just relax and enjoy the sunshine, with a two or three-course lunch at the restaurant when you need to change things up.
Albert River Wines
This heritage venue is perfect for a charming Tamborine wine tasting experience. Once home to three previous Queensland Premiers, the Albert River Wines homestead features a breezy verandah where you can enjoy your wine tasting in view of the vines. Any level of wine hanger is covered too, with snacks like antipasto and cheese boards on the menu, as well as a full a la carte restaurant offering.
Mason Wines
Let’s face it, all of the Mount Tamborine winery stops are uber relaxed, but Mason Wines really takes it to another level. With tables both out in the sunshine and on a shady verandah, you can settle in for one of their famous wine tastings, which will only set you back $8pp. Throw in a cheese board and you’ve got the perfect afternoon—there’s even a cottage you can book a stay in if you really don’t want to go anywhere else.
Mt Tamborine Vineyard And Winery
Set amongst the bustling main strip of Mount Tamborine, this winery is the oldest on the mountain—so they’ve had plenty of time to perfect their wine-making techniques. You’ll find yourself unable to choose a favourite from their selection of drops, and we highly recommend giving their port a whirl too. Filled with charm, Mount Tamborine Vineyard and Winery is also handily located, meaning you don't even have to travel for it.
