Sydney’s east is on track for its first new train station in more than a decade, with the NSW Government progressing plans to finally complete Woollahra Station on the T4 Eastern Suburbs Line.

First proposed—and partially built—in the 1970s before being abandoned, the long-dormant station site is set for a revival as part of a broader push to improve transport access and unlock new housing close to the CBD.

New Woollahra Train Station Confirmed On T4 Eastern Suburbs Line

The proposed Woollahra Station will sit between Edgecliff and Bondi Junction on the T4 line, delivering an estimated eight-minute direct connection to the Sydney CBD.

Transport for NSW is currently developing detailed design plans, with construction expected to begin in 2027 and wrap up in 2029.

Once complete, it will become Sydney’s first brand-new train station in over 10 years—an infrastructure milestone for the eastern suburbs.

How Woollahra Station Will Improve CBD Access And Local Connectivity

The new station is designed to improve accessibility, safety and connectivity for residents across Woollahra and surrounding suburbs.

Key benefits include:

  • A fully accessible station on the T4 line
  • Faster, direct CBD access
  • Integration with existing bus and rail networks
  • Reduced congestion across nearby stations

By strengthening links between homes, jobs and essential services, the project aims to make public transport a more viable option for daily commuters in Sydney’s east.

The station project is closely tied to a state-led rezoning process around Woollahra and Edgecliff stations, which is expected to unlock up to 10,000 new homes.

A portion of these homes will be allocated as affordable housing, supporting greater housing diversity in an area traditionally marked by high property prices.

The government says the project aligns with its broader strategy to increase housing supply near transport hubs—building density where infrastructure already exists (or is about to).

When Will Woollahra Station Be Built?

Planning is currently underway, with community consultation to occur as designs are finalised.

Construction is expected to start in 2027, with completion targeted for 2029.

As the rezoning process progresses alongside station planning, Woollahra is shaping up to become a key focus point in Sydney’s east—where transport upgrades and housing supply are being delivered in tandem.

For now, it’s a return to a plan that began nearly 50 years ago—this time with the infrastructure and housing agenda firmly aligned.
