You probably thought Mission Bay had it all by now—a great selection of beachside restaurants, a sturdy park for the kids to roam (and a questionable fountain for rinsing off in), and a long stretch of beach for working on your tan all summer.
Turns out, there’s a new fitness park in the works which promises to be the cherry on top of the perfect beach cake. Gym buffs and fitness junkies rejoice—Mission Bay is about to raise the bar… literally.
Muscle Beach is dubbed as where the best bodies in the world started a fitness revolution, and it’s coming to Auckland’s shores! The beachfront fitness movement originated in Venice Beach during the Physical Fitness Movement in 1933 and has stayed an institution there ever since. Mission Bay Business Association and Orakei Local Board have come together to bring you Muscle Beach, Auckland style.
There are plans for benches and bars to be sprawled across the grassy park for the iron pumpers and space to do all the Kayla Itsines your heart desires. At the moment, we all expect to be packed in like sardines at 5pm gym classes or we can’t get a spot at our local yoga studio. But no longer, because this is all about to change! With stellar views of the Eastern bays—including a picture-perfect Rangitoto—burpees have never looked so good. There’s no word as to when it’ll be completed, but keep an eye out for the fabulous news when it is.
Vitamin D, spectacular views and a great workout to boot! Cool off in the water after and treat yourself to one of the fabulous eateries on the beachfront—one thing’s for sure—workouts will never be the same.
