When it comes to the wonderful creation that is cake, there are two things we know to be true: a) everybody loves it and b) its appropriate/necessary for (almost) every occasion. Birthday party? Cake. Promotion? Cake. Got laid? Cake. As of late, cakes for these events have been made by Auckland’s influx of bakers, one of the best being Jordan Rondel of The Caker.
For the first time ever, The Caker will be branching out from their made-to-order only policy with Salon de Cake—their brand new and pretty-as-can-be cake parlour on K Road. Taking inspiration from beautiful old French salons, the space is neither a shop nor a hospo space, but a permanent home for The Caker, catering for cake pick-ups, wedding consultations, retail for the books and cake mixes, events and venue hire (baby showers, engagement parties and the like).
Stepping into Salon de Cake you will automatically notice the baby pink and white hues, soft sheepskin, gold and neon. It sounds like an odd mish-mash of design choices but trust us, it works. The Caker love that cakes are all about sharing, celebration and bringing together loved ones, so it was only fitting that they collaborated with their friends and family for key pieces in the space—the chairs are even made by Jordan’s father!
Salon de Cake will be serving mini cakes from Monday to Saturday for those who want to pop in for a takeaway treat and a selection of whole cakes will be stored out back in case last-minute cakes are in order. And since all that cake consumption is likely to make you thirsty, artisan teas by Noble and Savage and Supreme filter coffee will be available.
Sounds heavenly, doesn’t it? It really is. All you have left to do is pop in and experience it for yourself!
