New Year, new you? Thought so. In that case drop what you’re doing and get to Takapuna's newest opening, Street Organics.
Housed in a converted shop, this health-orientated cafe is looking after all your paleo, gluten free, low FODMAP and vegan requirements. That said, meat-eating, bread loving, sugar fiends will be pretty happy here, too.
Street Organics’ journey started a decade ago when new owner Nicky Patridge’s best friend, Kristen Morrison, gave birth to a son with health issues. Kristen quickly gave up her career in fashion and dedicated her life to alternative practices to help her son—with food being a major part of that.
Fast forward, the first Street Organics opened in Melbourne some years ago with Kristen at the helm. And, when Nicky saw how much her beloved friend’s cafe helped the community (including her son), she was dead set on opening a cafe that shared the same morals and ethics and they decided to launch an Auckland version of Street Organics. Nicky is incredibly passionate about what she does—you can see it in her eyes. And the result of her efforts is truly something special.
Everything here is made from scratch using the best, organic ingredients possible. From the nut butters to the house brewed probiotic drinks to the cashew milk—each product is made with loving care.
The all-day breakfast menu boasts smoothie bowls, housemade granola adorned with generous amounts of lush berries. There’s vegan chia puddings and paleo toast accompanied with free-range organic eggs or housemade jam. Or, try a caveman-friendly toastie complete with almond butter, sliced banana and pepitas.
Light meals include a soup of the day, trusty smashed avo alongside goat’s milk feta and tomato on sourdough. There’s a selection of salads, sandwiches and wraps. And the cabinet looks stupidly good, too.
Do your body some good with one of their tumeric, matcha or beetroot lattes. But, if caffeine is your kryptonite, sleep well knowing that the espresso here is fairtrade and organic. Nicky even has future plans of selling leftover grounds with a guide of ‘101 things to do with coffee grounds’ with the mission to give 100% of the proceeds back to the farmers and their community that grew her coffee.
All in all, Street Organics ticks all the boxes to enjoy a meal with your fussy, health-conscious friends. But in all honesty, the food is so tasty you'll be tempted to change up our diet—new year, new me? Easily done here, that’s forsure...
