While 2020 certainly feels like a long time ago (a pandemic tends to have that effect), it’s only been five years since the iconic Joedy’s Cafe transformed its sun-drenched corner of New Farm into a neighbourhood favourite and one of Queensland’s best cafes. Bringing crowds in on the daily to enjoy Asian-inspired breakfasts and specialty coffee served in a warm and breezy atmosphere, Joedy’s is now entering its next era with a new name, new look, and all the reasons you already love.
Introducing Bobby’s Wine Bar & Espresso. Extending Joedy’s existing offering into an after-dark spot for good wine, grazing boards and tapas, it’s a project that owner Joedy Kyle has had in the works for more than a year—giving his loyal customer base just another reason to grace the crowd-favourite spot on the regular.
“Bobby is my mum’s nickname,” said Kyle, “She’s my safe place—my warm and cuddly person—and in the same way Bobby’s is homely, calm and inviting.”
Replacing Joedy’s olive green with a pinot noir red, Bobby’s will house a curated and 90% Australian wine list, spotlighting boutique wineries, organic drops, and biodynamic sips. Each glass pairs perfectly with the charcuterie offering, including artisan delights from Tamorine Cheeses and meats sourced straight from Italy. As for the tapas menu, expect small plates made for sharing with a very loose Asian influence, like kingfish ceviche with yuzu, wasabi and buttermilk.
Following a full transformation, Bobby’s will take over the New Farm spot in late August but don’t fret—the all-day menu will remain entirely the same (yes, that means the croissant eggs benny isn’t going anywhere). By day, Bobby’s will serve all the usual suspects that the people love from Joedy’s before switching to the wine bar from 2pm til late on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
