Private island retreats are the pinnacle of luxury escapes, don't you agree? But before you click away, assuming that any such getaway is completely out of reach for us normal people, we've found one that you might actually be able to afford.
It’s called Camp Island and you'll find it in the crystal-blue waters of the Whitsundays, sitting in Queensland’s world heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef. Part of the Private Collection by Spicers collection, it’s exactly the type of island you’d wish to be stranded on. The island features one mega Queenslander-style lodge which connects four villas that sleep two people each, each with ceiling fans, luxury linens, cosy lounge chairs and Leif bathroom amenities.
After a transfer via boat or helicopter, you'll be welcomed by the island's onsite hosts, who are on hand to organise activities and help make you feel at home (and in case the thought of being alone on an island is a little much). You'll need to bring your own provisions, because there's obviously no supermarkets on the island (or bottle shops), but you can make use of the lodge's fully equipped kitchen and dining room, as well as living areas featuring TVs, books, games, and a DVD library. And for those who like their mod-cons, don't worry—there's reception and a Nespresso coffee machine in the lodge.
The maximum number of guests you can have on the island is eight at one time, with rates starting from $2,250 per night depending on the season (you’ll pay the same nightly rate regardless of how many people you invite). There’s a three-night minimum stay so we’ve gone and done the quick math for you and calculated that it’s just $280 per person each night if you invite your seven closest friends. Might we remind you that you’ll have the entire island to yourself?
As for what you can do on Camp Island, the possibilities are really endless thanks to a heap of complimentary equipment. Go snorkelling all day long, take on the double kayak, jump on a stand-up paddleboard, go fishing, walk around the entire island, watch the sunrise or set, dapple in some beach cricket—the island is all yours.
