There’s a lot to love about Christmas Day, but if we’re being honest, the 24-hour window leaves some room for improvement. Before you know it, you’ve polished off half a kilo of prawns, your second serve of Christmas pudding and a fifth glass of champagne followed by an afternoon food coma and poof, the day is done.
So to help you well and truly extend the festivities of Christmas, we’ve rounded up a few of the best Christmas events going down in South Bank this year, that kick off probably before you’ve even got your tree up.
The South Bank Christmas Show
There’s nothing like a good Christmas music sing along to help you get into the festive spirit, especially when it comes with a hefty dose of nostalgia, and the South Bank Christmas Show will have you tapping your toes and singing yourself hoarse. Combining live music, singing, dancing, circus and Santa, the diverse variety show is perfect for the whole family, with shows at 6.30pm and 8pm. You will need to nab tickets in advance for this one—they start at $6 per person and you can purchase them here.
Festive Beats
Wind down into the Christmas season at South Bank Parklands for an evening of live performances at Festive Beats, presented by eatSouthBank, Little Stanley Street Lawns and River Quay Green. Prepare to be serenaded by the smooth vocals of an array of local artists as you enjoy a festive picnic or takeaway treat from one of many restaurants and eateries across the precinct.
Christmas Cinema
Epic snacks, picnic rug, an outdoor cinema and Christmas movies. We’ll wait for you to name a better festive combo than that. This year, make sure to plan a visit to the Christmas Cinema presented by eatSouthBank at River Quay Green in South Bank Parklands and lap up their free cinematic experience. Here, you’ll be able to catch some of your favourite festive movie titles as the sun sets over the Brisbane skyline, bliss.
Endless Fun For Little Ones
If you’ve got a little one in tow you’ll want to make sure to make the journey to Santa’s Stop Over to pay a visit to Mr and Mrs Claus at South Bank Parklands’ Flowstate. Or, if they’re looking to get interactive, don’t miss out on the Kid’s Craft and Storytelling, where Santa’s elves will recite their favourite storybook tales. They’ll even get to create their very own koala instrument. Simply adorable. It’s free to visit, but you will need to grab a ticket from an hour prior to each session between 4pm and 9.30pm from the booth at Flowstate.
