GoBoat invites you to be your own captain with their electric picnic boats, which you can sail the Brisbane River in. These funky little boats have been cruising the river between Newstead and South Bank for a while now, but they've just added a brand new vessel to their fleet—and this one is three times faster.
Yep, if you've puttered along in one of the GoBoats, wine in hand, you'll know that they go at a snail's pace, a necessity for a vessel that doesn't require anyone to have a boat licence. The luxe new boats, however, dubbed, GoBoat+, feature a six-kilowatt motor and a ship's wheel, ensuring you can zip down the river at (moderate) speed. The catch? You'll need someone with a boating licence to drive.
Apoint a captain and you'll be able to cruise the river in style, with the faster boats also able to carry eight poeple, and even your doggo if you want to bring them along. As with the original boats, they feature a large picnic table with a sunshade for extra comfort. Just BYO picnic, tipple of choice (just none for the captain, sorry) and set sail.
Don't have a friend with a licence? Not to worry, they've also just launched GoBoat Academy, where you can complete a boat license course right here on the river. If you'd prefer to just keep putting along however, the original boats that require no license or experience to drive are still available to hire.
The boats set sail the official GoBoat pontoon at the Breakfast Creek Lifestyle Precinct, where you can also pick up pastries and picnic goodies from MICA. You can hire them for one, two or three hours depending on how far up the river you want to go. And of course, you'll get a crash course in how to drive the boats—and how to ensure you avoid annoying any ferry captains.
If you've already got your captain's hat on in readiness, you can book yourself an hour or two on the water right here.
Meanwhile, why not jump on this boozy beer cruise?
