Do you know what we miss? Travelling. Like, a lot. The anticipation of landing in a new destination, the excitement of exploring the culture and most of all, the food. We seriously miss the food.
If you’re yearning for a tastebud holiday, you’re in luck. Global Fiesta, a worldly food festival, is taking over South Bank Saturday, October 16 and Sunday, October 17. Pack your bags because they’re bringing the sights, sounds and flavours of six different continents to your doorstep. We’re talking electric performances, delicious workshops and an epic market. Scope out the deets on everything you need to know below.
Peep The Epic Performances
With three dedicated stages across the event and a lineup of roving performers, the team here sure knows how to throw a fiesta. The Destination Stage explores music and dance performances across many cultures, including Aboriginal, Arabic and Pacific. While you’re around, tide over the shows with an international brew from Eat South Bank’s Fiesta Bar.
Next, head north to the World Stage, where you’ll enjoy Latin, Tibetan and African influences. On the foodie front, Dario Manca is serving up insight on Italian cuisine while Dale Chapman explores Indigenous foods. Or, take a break from the buzz and recoup in the Departure Lounge. Soak up the Mediterranean atmosphere set to the backdrop of electric beats. It’s guaranteed good vibes all around.
Spice Up Your Life
Admittedly, we’re not beyond quoting British royalty. In the words of the Spice Girls, spice up your life with the Epicurious Garden Spice Tour. You’ll dive deep into the herbs and spices found in South Bank Parklands, learning about their history, flavour profiles and uses. The tour is hosted by renowned chefs and expert horticulturists, so definitely add it to your weekend agenda.
Fill Up On Street Eats
A festival wouldn’t be complete without an epic collection of eats—and Global Fiesta delivers on all foodie fronts. We're talking flavourful South American fare to indulgent Italian bites and Asian-inspired morsels.
With more than 50 stalls due to descend on Little Stanley Street, take our sound advice and come hungry. Whether wood-fired pizza is your jam or Spanish tapas hit the spot, your weekend eats are sorted. Pro tip: leave room for drinks and dessert, because rumour has it the local tipples and succulent sweet treats are there for the taking. Bring the fam, crew or beau—there's something for everyone.
