The Brisbane Cricket Ground, aka The Gabba, is the beating heart of Brisbane’s sporting scene. And whether you’re heading to a cricket game or cheering on the Lions at an AFL match, the action doesn’t stop at the stadium gates. The surrounding streets are packed with pre- and post-game options, from casual pubs and pizza joints to rooftop bars with views over the field.

Got tickets for a big game? Here’s everything you need to know about match day at The Gabba, from getting to the stadium to the best spots to eat, drink and stay nearby.

Where To Eat And Drink Around The Gabba

Fuel up before kickoff or unwind after the final whistle with a drink, a bite, and a buzzing match-day atmosphere. The Gabba’s surrounding suburbs (Woolloongabba, Kangaroo Point and South Brisbane) have you covered.

Stickybeak Wine Bar, Logan Road

Settle in with a few small plates and a self-poured glass of wine before the game, then stroll across the road with your ticket (and team scarf) at the ready.

Brisbane German Club, Vulture Street

Grab a stein and some hearty German eats at this bustling spot, perfect for celebrating a win (or commiserating a loss).

Superfly, Gibbon Street

A casual eatery tucked down Eden Lane, Superfly slings craft beers, wine and New York and Neapolitan-style pizzas.

The Morrison Hotel, Stanley Street

Packed with fans on game day, this classic pub is our pick for a pre-game pint or post-match debrief (plus, it’s got a killer whisky list and cocktail jugs).

Sunsets Rooftop, Linton Street

With city views on one side and a birds-eye view straight into The Gabba on the other, this is a prime spot to toast the game in style.

Brewhouse, Stanley Street

A buzzing local pub with cold beers, hearty pub grub, and a lively game-day crowd, just up the road from The Gabba.

The Best Places To Stay Near The Gabba

From budget-friendly stays to boutique hotels, there are plenty of accommodation options within easy reach of the stadium, so you can stress less about transport and make a full day of it instead.

Emporium Hotel, South Bank

A stunning rooftop pool and bar make this 5-star boutique hotel the perfect place for kicking back and celebrating after a game-day weekend, just 5 minutes from the stadium.

The Point Brisbane Hotel, Kangaroo Point

A relaxing stay featuring spacious rooms and suites, river views and easy access (a 5-minute drive or 20-minute walk) to The Gabba.

Gabba Central Apartments, Woolloongabba

For fans after convenience and value, these budget-friendly, modern apartments are just minutes from The Gabba, putting the stadium, local bars, and dining spots all within easy walking distance.

Getting To The Gabba

There’s no public parking at The Gabba on event days, and nearby streets are often restricted to 15-minute parking limits, so public transport is your friend. In good news, your event ticket usually includes free travel on trains, buses, and event shuttles within the city.

  • Public transport: Park at a major station with park-and-ride (like Eight Mile Plains) and ride the train or bus to Woolloongabba Station. It’s a short stroll to the gates from there.

  • Shuttle buses: Check The Gabba shuttle bus timetable for event-specific services. Extra buses often run for big games, making this an easy option for getting in and out.

  • Rideshare and drop-offs: Princess, Potts and Hubert streets are ideal drop-off and pick-up points near The Gabba.

Parking: If you decide to drive, pre-book a nearby private lot such as Secure Parking (93 Logan Road) or Wilson Parking (Gabba Central) to secure a spot within walking distance to the stadium.
