A New Bar And Grill Is Landing In South Brisbane By A Renowned Melbourne Hospo Group

It’s no secret Melbourne takes its cafe culture very seriously, and The Mulberry Group is a huge reason why. Opening venues like Higher Ground, Top Paddock and The Kettle Black as well as the not-for-profit regenerative farm and social enterprise Common Ground Project, the acclaimed Melbourne hospo group is now coming north with their first Queensland venue opening on Cordelia Street.

High Road Bar & Grill isn’t a copy and paste of their Melbourne offerings, but has instead been created with the South Brisbane neighbourhood in mind. Queensland produce takes the lead and unhurried hospitality makes one visit easily turn into a habit. 

You can choose your own adventure. The 100-seat restaurant is where the grill takes centre stage, led by head chef Gareth Woolcock with a touch of Australian nostalgia woven throughout dishes cooked over flames. Post up the 45-seat bar for a pre-show tipple (QPAC is only a trot away) with an Australian-led wine list, local craft beer and a considered cocktail program or lock in the 10-seat private dining room for special occasions.

For founder and creative director Nathan Toleman (who was also an early investor and co-owner of Lune), The Mulberry Group’s arrival in the Sunshine State has been a long time coming. “Brisbane has such a great dining culture, and I've wanted to be part of it for a long time,” said Toleman. 

“Working with local designers and builders, we've created a space that feels truly ours; a corner site full of natural light, with different zones for everyone. It starts with making people feel warm and welcome as soon as they arrive, then the food cooked over the flames and the hospitality around it bring it all together.”

High Road Bar & Grill is expected to open this October.
