In big news for anyone who likes to sesh on the riverfront (read: all of Brisbane), Howard Smith Wharves has just announced that its slated for a landmark transformation ahead of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Officially approved and ready to rumble, the bold new phase will bring massive changes to the riverfront precinct, including a new one-of-a-kind hotel, expansive public spaces and upgraded river infrastructure.

“This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Brisbane,” said founder Adam Flaskas. “Howard Smith Wharves has always been about connecting people with this magnificent river, and with this announcement we take that vision to an entirely new level, acting as a gateway to the river and Moreton Bay.”

So what’s exactly on the cards? A 106-room boutique hotel connecting guests to the Brisbane River with the Story Bridge as their backdrop. Brisbane’s first over-river pool basically guaranteed to become a city icon. Two new cliffside lifts to expand access to the precinct. Upgrades to Felons Barrel Hall so it can continue to attract world-class music and entertainment. A substantial increase in new outdoor public spaces. Oh, and cascading riverfront stairs that are no doubt going to make a heavy experience on the ‘gram.

Another major part of the plan is a new pontoon backed by the Queensland Government, delivering new river access, private boat mooring and a tourism gateway to the Brisbane River and Moreton Bay.

"Brisbane is a city on the rise, and Howard Smith Wharves is proud to be part of that story," said Flaskas. "Every decision we’ve made in designing HSW has been guided by asking: how do we create something that Brisbane will be proud to show the world in 2032 and for decades beyond."

Needless to say, we're keen as a bean.
