What if we were to tell you that not only is there a moonlight cinema popping up in Brisbane this summer, but that you can take your dog along to watch canine films? Well, we just did, and you’re welcome. Yep, cue the popcorn, tail-wagging and blockbusters because Moonlight Cinema is cranking up that projector and you’re invited.
Taking over The Amphitheatre at Roma Street Parklands from now right through to March, the outdoor cinema is serving up some absolute cracker blockbusters and short films. But the news that will really get you barking with excitement is that on Saturday 29 February they'll be showing doggy highlights from the Best of Top Dog Film Festival, and your four-legged friend is invited. The carefully curated collection of heart-warming stories about dogs and their people includes short films about the surfing dog of Huntington Beach, the bus riding pooch of Seattle, a very special rescue dog from South America and the working dogs of Australia. Your pup will be as engrossed as you are.
As for the rest of the time, there's plenty of less dog-focused films on the bill if that's your preference, including a showing of the twisted talk of the town film Joker, or a dose of action with Jumanji: The Next Level and Charlie’s Angels.
Bonus, this year you'll find espresso martinis being shaken up at the Tia Maria bar alongside a Tia Popcorn Frappe and a Tia and Tonic. Live large and opt for a ‘Gold Grass’ ticket and you can order your coffee cocktail to get delivered right to your comfy bean bed.
Movie snacks being just as important as the drinks, you can expect the usual candy bar favourites as well as a full kitchen menu. Or you can pack your own picnic if you’re feeling ultra-domestic. You may not be able to BYO booze, but who needs it with espresso martinis to order.
Gates open at 5.30pm every day and the movies are kicking off at 7:15pm so we’re thinking you should rock up early to perch yourself in the midst of the oh-so-stunning Roma Street Parklands surroundings.
