If you’re known to froth over a few frothies, then you probably know all about Yeerongpilly’s Slipstream Brewing Co and their craft beers, made right there in the converted warehouse turned microbrewery. You might even know that an expansion to the brew house has been in the works for a while, thanks to a bit of help from Mighty Craft, to both increase their brewing and seating capacity. Well, after a few weeks of closure, the schmick new brewery is finally here, and it’s worth a trip to the south side for any hops lover.

Opening officially on Friday 19 February, you’ll find the brewery completely transformed, with a clean, modern look now overlaying the original industrial grunge warehouse style space. Slipstream’s shiny new tanks full of hops fermenting away are visible down the back, with the finished products available at the lengthy bar lining one side of the space. There’s even a shady beer garden out front for when the weather cools down.

On tap behind the bar, you’ll find all of Slipstream’s classics of course, but there’s also a selection of brewery only beers in case you’re feeling adventurous. Right now, to celebrate the new opening, the team have brewed up a Banoffee Pie Pastry Stout and a 8.5% Double IPA, so you might want to go and order a pint soon. It’s not all beers though—there’s also wine and spirits for the non-beer drinks out there.

Here’s the best part though—along with the expansion and renovation, a full kitchen has been added to the brewery, meaning there’s now a lengthy menu of eats to snack on while you drink (although we will miss the food truck pop-ups). Chef Adam Healy (ex DogTap) and Chef Karma Garung (ex The Smoke BBQ), have nailed the whole drinking food thing, with a line up that includes popcorn cauliflower with ranch dipping sauce, a Southern fried chicken burger with chipotle sauce, fish tacos with battered barramundi, pico de gallo and ricotta salata, and a selection of slow-cooked meats served up with chipotle coleslaw and fries.

Bonus, with the new, larger space comes the opportunity for the Slipstream crew to plan a heap of fun happenings and events, from beer masterclasses and beer matching dinners to brewery tours (which will kick off in March—keep an eye out for those).

Basically, founders Deale and Elisa Stanley Hunt have come a long way since their home brewing days, and we can’t wait to see what they come up with next. Scope out everything you need to know about the brewery here
