There's no better way to spend a beachside evening on your European escapades than with a tart and tangy limoncello in hand.
Because of this, you’d think it strange that before our mates at SOLBEVI showed us what’s good, Aussie travelers have refrained from recreating this top-tier experience at home.
Low and behold the genius behind the SOLBEVI concution, Mr Stefan Di Benedetto. Thanks to this lemon loving legend, we're now able to enjoy the perfect blend of classic Italian liquor and modern mixology without lifting a finger.
If you're not yet familiar with this zesty mixer served in a 250ml can, listen up. Launched officially nine months ago alongside their more tradional Limoncello liquer, SOLBEVI's carefully curated Limoncello Spritz has kicked off an official Limoncello moment (spritz edition).
Swept up in the rise of the Limoncello Spritz to home bar fame, it's easy to forget that this drink's humble origins began way back on the coast of Capri.
First created in the 20th century—using the sun-kissed lemons of a small hotel owner—limoncello is a sweet and refreshing liquor enjoyed most commonly as an after-dinner digestive. Traditionally served in a shot glass, many have spent years using this iconic drop as the perfect way to top off overindulging in all things cooked al dente.
Growing up in a second-generation Italian household, Di Benedetto's fondest memories involve sitting with his loved ones under grapevines or by the beach, sipping on limoncello, laughing, and enjoying each other's company.
For as long as he can remember, Di Benedetto has made this drink his unofficial/official personality trait and his many variations of home brew recipes over the years have always been a hit with his go-to crew of sippers.
However, it wasn’t until one low-key night in COVID lockdown 2022 that Di Benedetto realised that limoncello could be something more than just an after-dinner shot enjoyment—cue the penny drop.
From here he decided to take the bright flavours and addictive sweetness of the OG and create a fizzy and refreshing variation suitable to be enjoyed on any occasion. And with that SOLBEVI, translating so fittingly to 'Sun Drink', and the infamous Limoncello Spritz was born.
Taking the title of Australia’s first ever Limoncello Spritz, this flavour-packing beverage is referred to by many as the new and improved Aperol. Having sold over 60,000 RTD units since launch, this not so humble can has a home in over 517 venues around the country. SOLBEVI's flying success does not stop there, quite literally. In addition to lining top shelves around Australia, SOLBEVI will soon be available for purchase aboard select Qantas aircrafts and in their First Class Lounges. To top that all off, the team of sun spritzing legends behind the brand were also winners at the International Wine and Spirits Competition in London in the Ready to Drink and Cocktail Categories.
Wrapped in eye-catching Italian art, the colorful can of this zingy beverage looks great in photos and could even work as a pop of Positano on your mantelpiece. We recommend serving it as cold as possible alongside a wedge of lemon and a mint sprig or two.
The perfect accompaniment at a family BBQ, a great replacement for a birthday mimosa, or a drink that at a reasonable 0.8 standards can be enjoyed from early arvo into the later evening. Just in time for the offical World Limoncello Day on June 22nd, the limoncello era is well and truly back in business, and it’s a delicious era at that.
