A Game-Changing Precinct With Plenty Of Public Spaces Is In The Works For The Heart Of Toowong
You might have many more reasons to visit the heart of Toowong, with a proposed development transforming a long-time vacant site into a vibrant precinct with community at its core.
The Toowong Central project aims to level up a 1.4-hectare site along Sherwood Road, High Street and Jephson Street with residential offerings, a fresh food market, specialty shops, cafes, restaurants, and lush landscaping. Plus, TotalFusion has also climbed onboard—committing to opening a luxe health and wellness club in Toowong if the project is approved.
Toowong Central will be spread across three tall and slender buildings, leaving more room on the ground level for generous and open public spaces. The mixed-use precinct is pedestrian-friendly, leaning on the existing well-connected public transport options in the area so you can stroll on through and soak in the beautiful gardens, plaza and art featured throughout the space.

“The project team’s vision is to bring new life, connection and opportunity to Toowong—and to create a special place that serves the suburb and Brisbane well into the future,” says Verso Projects CEO Steve Laffey.
Leading the design is Kerry Hill Architects and PWP Landscape Architecture—who were behind the eight-acre garden dome at the heart of Singapore’s Changi Airport and Sydney’s beautiful Barangaroo Reserve. Needless to say, they know their way around a world-class precinct.
The site (which was formerly occupied by a Woolworths supermarket) also incorporates a heritage-listed two-storey building on High Street, which will be retained in the proposal.
The Brisbane City Council is now inviting the public to have their say on whether the Toowong Central project should be approved. You have until 8 December 2025 to share your thoughts—find out more here.
