The MINI Edition | Top 10 Things to Do In Brisbane This April

By

Brisbane’s really wearing its game face this April, with more kickin’ events, new openings, and great chow than you can poke a stick at.

We’ve got dessert fries, new burger joints, music festivals, street-food battles, food trucks to chase, and swanky Sunday sessions to keep you busy, fed, and watered.

If you’re on the hunt for things to do in Brisbane this April, look no further.

10. Aperitivo Sundays at Gerard’s Bar

Your end-of-the-weekend blues don’t stand a chance against this Sunday session. With old-school hip hop on the decks, jugs of cocktails on hand, and a barbecue that will change your perception of charred meats forever, Sundays are better spent at Gerard’s Bar

When: Aperitivo Sundays are a permanent weekly fixture, and kick off each Sunday from 3pm.

9. Blues & Roots Festival is Back!

Forget the chocolate this Easter long weekend and treat your ears to a sweeter indulgence, ‘cause the Byron Bay Bluesfest is on again. With Angus & Julia Stone, Boy & Bear, Sticky Fingers, Ben Harper, Augie March, Paolo Nutini, and more kicking it up over five epic days, this laid-back music festival is a favourite for a reason.

When: Thursday April 2nd - Monday April 6th.

8. Pizzantica at Green Beacon, Every Monday & Tuesday

When one of our favourite Brisbane food trucks takes up a weekly residency at one of our favourite bars, you can bet it’s going to end in a drunken, carb-fuelled mess. Luckily, there’s no other way we’d rather start our week. Pizzantica are parking at Green Beacon on Monday and Tuesday nights, and we couldn’t be happier.

When: Every Monday & Tuesday night.

7. Jurassic 5 at The Tivoli

Following their sold-out tour in 2014, LA hip-hop favourites, Jurassic 5 are in Brisbane this April. With a distinct, fresh sound that’s still as relevant as ever, you can catch them on Saturday April 4th at the Tivoli.

When: Saturday April 4th.

6. Tuesday Crab Feasts At Nantucket

Crustacean lovers, clear your calendars, because Cape-Cod-style restaurant, Nantucket Kitchen & Bar is throwing a crab feast every Tuesday night, bibs and all. Nantucket’s Crab Feasts include a crab-centric entrée, followed by a main of either Asian- or American-style crab. Get cracking.

When: Every Tuesday night from 5:30pm.

5. Friday Nite SnackDown at Wandering Cooks

Iron Chef fans, have we got a Brisbane event for you! A food fight like you’ve never seen, get down to Wandering Cooks every Friday night to witness two nations’ street foods go head-to-head in a snack battle royale. Friday Nite SnackDown is a delicious collaboration between Wandering Cooks and Beerkary Bakery’s Ben Devlin, with the food prepared by some of Brisbane’s best chefs. The battling cuisines change up each week, so you can go back again and again (and again). Which street food will reign supreme?

When: Every Friday night from 4pm.

4. Melbourne Comedy Festival Roadshow at The Powerhouse

Prepare to get giggly, kids, because everybody’s favourite comedy festival is hitting the road. Kicking off on the 29th of April, you can find the Melbourne Comedy Festival at Brisbane’s very own Powerhouse. With a line-up that includes international comedy superstars and home-grown comedians, this is an essential Brisbane event.

When: From 29th April - 2nd May.

3. Chip Tease

We never knew sugar-encrusted sweet potato chips topped with whipped cream and Nutella were missing from our life, until we met Chip Tease. One of the newest Brisbane food trucks to hit the streets, Chip Tease is a chip-lovers paradise. Serving up original, beer-battered, and sweet potato fries, complete with loaded toppings and sauces, Chip Tease has quickly become famous for its epic dessert fries. Find them roving between food-truck events and popping up at festivals.

When: Follow them on Facebook for up-to-the-minute movements.

2. The Stables Craft Bar & Kitchen

Ascot’s bar scene needed a kick in the pants, and The Stables is just the colt to do it. A chilled vibe, spiffy beer and wine selection, and impressive share-style bar menu make this new Brisbane bar a must-try in April.

When: Open 11am until late, Tuesday to Sunday.

1. Check Out Getta Burger’s New Store

Getta Burger’s epic American-menu has garnered this little Brisbane burger joint a cult following, so the arrival of a new venue on the north side is cause for plenty of squeals (this is the restaurant who invented the Pie Shake—a milkshake made with a whole slice of pie, ice cream, and salted caramel sauce— for cripes sakes). The new Bridgeman Downs Getta Burger venue has the same greasy menu as the original (and we mean that in the best possible way.)

When: Open Wednesday through Sunday, find their opening hours here.
