Sure, shopping and lunching in the city is fun, but there’s nothing like kicking back in the park on a sunny day. While loads of city centres are built-up concrete jungles, we’re lucky to have a CBD that's sandwiched between water and sprawling parklands in Brisbane.
With prime spots for picnicking, working out, and sunning yourself—plus a bunch of free events on the horizon—Victoria Park is the perfect retreat from the rush of the city.
Here are the best things to do at Victoria Park this spring and summer.
Have A Picnic With Your Crew
Save your pretty pennies and swap pub lunch for an afternoon picnic in the park. Victoria Park is kitted out with BBQs and new furniture—so all you need to bring is the snacks. For a romantic vibe, set up under the jacaranda in the tree-lined gully or sit on the Spring Hill side of Victoria Park for glorious views of the sunset.
Watch A Film At The Outdoor Cinema
Victoria Park will be kicking off its free outdoor cinema screenings on Halloween with two evening sessions. Catch fun, animated flick Hotel Transylvania which tells the story of Count Dracula at 6.30pm, or see comedy-meets-fantasy Ghostbusters: Afterlife at 8.15pm on Saturday 28 October. Keep an eye on the website for more summer screenings.
Play A Game Of Putt Putt Golf
Victoria Park’s 18-hole mini golf course comes with stunning views of Brisbane city—and the enticing offer of bevvies delivered directly to you as you go. Round up your crew and book into one of the park’s themed putt putt sessions, or pop down any day of the week for a regular game and pay just $20pp. Putt putt is open until 11pm, so you can hit the course for a post-dinner, late-night game.
Hit The Olympic-Standard Pool
Refresh your workout routine and experience a little slice of Brisbane's history by swimming laps at Centenary Pool—a 1950s Olympic-standard pool that overlooks Victoria Park. Water play and relaxation more your jam? Bring the kids and spend a day playing in the outdoor pool, reading your book on a lounger, and snacking at the kiosk under a shady umbrella.
Keep The Kids Entertained This Spring
Get some fresh air in the great outdoors while the kids burn off some steam at Victoria Park. Budding soccer players aged between 2 and 5 can develop their motor skills and coordination and run around the park on Wednesday morning at free classes—just don't forget to book. For under 5-year-olds, book into one of the ‘messy play’ sessions. Upcoming events include an adorable Dino Encounter on Thursday 12 October and a Halloween messy session on Thursday 17 October.
