Dessert lovers, the Valley’s newest venue is for you. Coming to us from Andrew McCrea, the rule-bending chef and owner of Perspective Dining, one of Brisbane’s best degustation restaurants, is Eucalyptus Room, an intimate 10-seat venue dedicated entirely to dessert.
Adjoining Perspective Dining room via an open doorway, and sharing the same kitchen, Eucalyptus Room was born out of McCrea’s nostalgia for his sweet childhood experiences—which you’ll hear all about when he serves each of the seven uber-creative dessert courses around the single, shared dining table inside the cosy space. Yes, seven—with nary a savoury bite among them.
Starting with a bread and butter course, which involves a bite-sized serve of translucent ‘bread’ sandwiched around butter sorbet, you’ll sample the likes of a pavlova-inspired meringue, lamington ice cream sandwich and chocolate doughnut, all of which take traditional desserts as inspiration and twist them in mind-bending ways.
While you might think you’ll finish the seven courses in a sugar coma, that’s not the case—McCrea has created a menu that deliberately doesn't go hard on chocolate, cream and all those ingredients that leave you feeling heavy. We can tell you from personal experience that you’ll end the final course with your sweet tooth sated, but not overwhelmed.
The most mind-blowing part? McCrea is legally blind with just six percent vision—making the intricately prepared and plated dishes all the more impressive. There’s two nightly seatings available at 6.30pm and 9pm, so skip dinner and go straight for dessert, or have a light bite elsewhere in the Valley before booking in for the late night session.
