There are so many reasons to enjoy a cake these days. No longer do you need to wait a whole year for your birthday to roll around, or be disappointed when your work colleagues get something as boring as a lemon meringue on their special day.
There are engagement parties, baby showers, ‘I’m off to Europe’ leaving parties and international food days happening left, right and centre. Heck, just making it to the weekend calls for a celebration, and what better way to celebrate than with a slice from our list of the best cakes on the Gold Coast.
It is also a well known fact, the more you weigh, the harder you are to kidnap. So stay safe and eat cake…
The Cake That Ate Paris
From humble beginnings, Bree started as a pastry chef selling her treats at local markets on weekends which gave her a loyal client base to expand her business. These days, The Cake That Ate Paris is an incredibly popular cake designer based in Palm Beach where it seems weddings are her thing. An initial consultation includes taste testing numerous flavours until you find ‘the one’. Dedicated to making your day divine, with your cake an important part of the celebration, Bree will help you decide on the elements, look and style that are perfect for you and your wedding crew!
You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy one of the Nude Sisters’ dreamy raw creations and we think that’s kinda the same thing. Now with a physical shop space in Mermaid, you can venture down and see the sophisticated selection in store where you will soon succumb to a slice of pure delight. Cheesecakes are their specialty and they are so damn pretty it’s hard to believe they are free from refined sugar, gluten and dairy. Vegans, rejoice!
Two Little Bakers
Talented is an understatement for the two that make up this mother/daughter duo. Based in Mudgeeraba, Two Little Bakers make unicorn cakes, cupcake towers, magical three-tiered wedding cakes and fun birthday cakes. You name it, they create it. With copious amounts of cupcakes in the cabinet, it’d be rude not to try at least two. After all, we think having a balanced diet is having a cupcake in each hand. Agreed?
Nourishing By Sally Robbie
There’s no need to sugar-coat everything in Sally Robbie’s mixing bowl. She prides herself on wholesome raw desserts that are completely dairy free, gluten free, refined sugar free and vegan (so basically good for you). ‘Cheezecakes’ are her thing and can be made to order in either vanilla berry, chocolate mint or peanut butter caramel. If you fancy a taste, you can hunt down a slice at one of her stockists located all over the Coast, but we think just a taste is a tease! Are these some of the best cakes on the Gold Coast? You betcha!
I Heart Cakes
Creating some of the best cakes on the Gold Coast, Casey is a qualified pastry chef and has been in the biz for the past 15 years, so it’s no wonder she has such sweet and sugary skills when it comes to cake baking. You want to be following I Heart Cakes Instagram, with swoon-worthy photos of personalised sugar cookies, dessert bars, custom cakes for all occasions, cute cupcakes and cake pops, doughnuts, meringues and tarts which are all magnificent works of art. You can even order a specialised high tea. Yes, please!
No two cakes ever appear quite the same when it comes to Nikki-Lee Frost’s decadent creations. Naughty Moments’ cakes are so insanely good looking they wouldn’t be out of place in the MasterChef kitchen. Layer upon layer of light sponge sandwiched together with oozes of buttercream goodness and topped with all the fancy feels; from crushed Oreos, salted caramel sauce, Ferrero Rochers, chocolate shards, Toblerone and even edible gold. Can’t. Even. Deal.
Hello Little Crumb
Samantha is a self taught cake maker/baker/artist and a glitter enthusiast who has a simple yet oh-so sophisticated approach to her craft. Inspired by the birth of her son, she wanted him to grow up watching her do something she loved and which allowed her to express her creativity. Hello Little Crumb’s Insty feed is proof in the pudding she is doing just that; full of pretty pastels and washed out watercolours, these cakes are seriously beauty on a plate.
If cake is your happy place and puts a gigantic smile on your face, then look no further than BVKED. If anyone can justify vegan vibes, it’s Tiffany Phillips and her way of baking because she knows how to serve desserts differently. BVKED’s doughnuts and cupcakes are often spotted at Nightquarter, Whips and Co., Kiss The Berry, Next Door Espresso and Lovechild Place’s monthly pop-up market. These one-of-a-kind vegan cakes are meticulously hand-crafted and should be considered to make your custom creation something worth celebrating.
Delicious By Sara
From Moana and Minion-inspired cakes, to gorgeous unicorn cakes and classic macaroon-styled cakes, Delicious By Sara can actually do it all. Sara’s passion for pastry started when she worked at the Sheraton in London, and now she’s opened her own pop-up shop in Southport to share her love for creating cakes. Whatever your occasion, it’s safe to say Delicious By Sara will come up with a cake to light up anyone’s face.
We just had to include this gem of a cafe, because their cake cabinet is too hard to resist. Perfect to pop in for morning tea, at Maudsland’s Terrarium you will find fresh and colourful concoctions such as ricotta and lemon tart with a poppy seed lemon pastry, fresh figs, local raw honey, bee pollen and topped with the prettiest flowers you ever did see. If you live on the opposite side of town, then we think it’s definitely worth the drive for some of the best cakes on the Gold Coast. (Maybe for more than one slice, no judgment.)
