An Outdoor Adventure Experience Featuring Australia’s Highest Zipline Is Opening At Binna Burra

By Ranyhyn Laine

Love hiking and climbing? How about climbing along the edge of a towering cliff, clinging only to steel cables while you creep ever higher over the valley below? You’ll soon be able to do just that in the Gold Coast Hinterland, with news of a new via ferrata and zipline adventure experience being created at Binna Burra in Lamington National Park, Happitat.

Italian for ‘iron path’, a via ferrata is a cliff face climbing route that uses steel cables, ladders and other fixed anchors to create a traversable climbing path along an otherwise inaccessible route. Popular across European hiking regions, they’re an adventurous activity that gives adrenaline seekers access to spectacular views in dramatic locations—like the Gold Coast hinterland.

The iconic Binna Burra Lodge in Lamington National Park has always been renowned for its stunning scenery and exhilarating adventures, so you can imagine how good the views will be from the side of a 180m-tall cliff. The two hour-long via ferrata experience here will take you across tightropes, timber log crossings, a net and an 80 metre sky bridge, and will have the adrenaline pumping the entire way.

Happitat will also feature Australia’s highest zipline, at a staggering 200m above the forest canopy below. There’ll be two different zipline experiences available—a one hour-long mega zipline across the cliff, and a two hour experience that incorporates multiple ziplines and a section of the via ferrata.

They’re currently recruiting for adventurous souls to join them before launch if you love a bit of heart-stopping action in your day-to-day, but if you prefer to keep your feet on the ground most of the time, keep your eyes peeled for a mid-2024 opening and get the details on what’s coming here
