A shiny new artisan market, music fests, swimwear sales, outdoor art showcases by the seaside, and fitness classes with beer chases.
Gold Coast is delivering yet again and we are spoilt for choice with events to help you forget about Monday. Here are five awesome things to do on the Gold Coast this weekend.
SWELL Sculpture Festival | Final Weekend
One of our fave events is preparing to wrap up for another year, so don’t delay! ‘Cause who doesn’t love an excuse to act all cultured and shiz with your toes firmly wriggled in the sand? Heralded as the state’s largest outdoor art exhibition, the 14th annual SWELL Sculpture Festival is an intriguing and interactive collection of art installations peppered along Currumbin’s foreshore. Wander around at your leisure or join guided twilight walks, artist talks, photography lessons or, between 2pm and 7pm, listen to live music and nosh on food truck eats at The Green.
Where: Pacific Parade, Currumbin
The 4217 Markets | Saturday, September 17
Just when you thought the Coast’s market scene was as hot as we could handle, along comes a fab new local creative and food purveyor market, hosted by Surfers Paradise’s The 4217 complex. About 25 local artisans selling wares from fashion and art, to children’s clothing, toys, and baked goods will pop up between 9am and 1pm this Saturday. Market stalls will operate alongside existing The 4217 vendors such as Paradox Coffee Roasters who’ll be opening the doors to coffee cupping, Salt Meats Cheese who are teaching the art of pasta making, Amey Hair wants you to know how to create the perfect braid (bless them!); while CHA Tea is hosting tea appreciation classes. Not been to Surfers in months? We reckon The 4217 Markets is a damn fine excuse to break the drought.
Where: The 4217, 10 Beach Road, Surfers Paradise
Wallapalooza | Saturday, September 17
Soothing sounds of the countryside will be broken for one night only when Wallapalooza Music Festival returns to Mudgeeraba this Saturday. Head to The Wallaby Hotel for a bevvie of local and national musos spread across three stages; with a genre to suit pretty much every taste from metal, to rock, folk, pop, and everything in between. Now it its 8th year, this home-grown celebration of local music will feature seductive sounds of the Hanlon Brothers, Melbourne headliner King of the North, plus another 28 or so acts. Seriously though, all this entertainment and it will cost you NADA, zip. Except for the beers, bring plenty of loose change for some liquid courage to help the toe tappin’ (or will it be head bangin’?) dance moves.
Where: 45 Railway Street, Mudgeeraba
Warehouse Swimwear and Travel Sale | Sunday, September 18
Guys, it’s spring! Which means there should be two things squarely on your mind: buying new swimwear and travel (although the latter is never far from our thoughts—you too?). It’s also perfect timing for a pop-up swimwear and travel accessories market event at Burleigh’s Warehouse No. 5. Hosted by a select handful of local online retailers who are killing it, including Mazarine Aqua with her designer active swimwear and Elephant Stripes with their stylish luggage, packs, and travel accessories. There’ll be discounts of up to to 60% on some of the most gorgeous active swimwear and paddlesuits we’ve ever laid eyes on, plus more. Open from 9am to 2pm, grab a coffee, your besties, and don’t forget your credit card! PS: we’ve giving away TWO epic prize packs worth $450, enter your deets here.
Where: 5/87 West Burleigh Road, Burleigh Heads
Pound ‘N Pour Workout at Burleigh Brewing | Sunday, September 18
After the raging success of Burleigh Brewing’s first fitness slash brews event with Lululemon last month (why are we not surprised?), there’s been a flood of interest to make this more of a regular thang. Couldn’t drag the boyf along to yoga? Pound ‘N Pour is a fun sweat-dripping jam session that’s a combo of Pilates and cardio set to the soundtrack of drumming—where you get to make the noise! Kicking off at 1pm sharp, tickets are $15 at the door (though jump on the event page to register) and include a frosty craft brew afterwards. Detox then retox (we may have made that word up)… Sounds like our kind of fitness strategy.
Where: 2 Ern Harley Drive, Burleigh Heads
