Can you believe we hit December this weekend? We swear it was just Easter. Anyhoo, time to get those festive season boots on, and as per usual, Melbourne, you have been blessed with a huge amount of food, drink and shopping options this weekend.

From markets and gin pop-ups to Polo matches, there’s plenty on this weekend to kick-start your December. Get that diary ready.

Brewers Fest at Abbotsford Convent

Lovers of food, craft beer, cider and live music, unite! The Abbotsford Convent Brewers fest is here, and it’s got a heap of events for you right through the weekend. For those of you who think of a good brew as some form of higher power, head to the Last Supper—a huge gourmet dinner with craft beers to match. The rest of the weekend has heaps of awesome live music to keep you entertained while you sip away.

MGC pop-up Gin Bar

G&T lovers rejoice! From Friday till the end of Feb, the Melbourne Gin Company summer bar will be serving a menu of four carefully selected gin and tonic combos from 5pm-8pm every Friday. Nothing says summer like dropping in for a sneaky after work beverage. Finally, a place free of those pesky G&T haters.

Big Design Market

Forget busy shopping centres—the Big Design Market has yourChrissyy shopping sorted. From overalls to doonas, there are tons of designers bringing you quirky little gifts galore. There’s also workshops on site, so you can get a dose of craft and DIY this weekend.

Taste of Melbourne

Another food market, another excuse to eat yourself sick. Just in case you didn’t have enough trouble deciding where to eat, a ton of Melbourne’s hottest restaurants like Gazi have come together to bring you all the goodness in Yarra Park. Have a field day with all the food you’ve ever dreamt about, take a gin masterclass, or book out a personal degustation tent with your mates. The Taste action kicks off tonight from 5:30pm.

Conversation Bites

This is one you’re not gonna want to miss. Come for the food and stay for the conversation (quite literally) this weekend at Yarra Park. The awesome teams behind R U OK? And Taste of Melbourne have teamed up to bring you good food and an excuse to start meaningful conversations, and it's all to help prevent suicide. There'll be celeb chefs whipping up goodies like barbeque calamari legs, too. Now that’s something to talk about.

Fresh Prince of Baklava at Highpoint

If you only have one cheat meal this weekend, you have to make it a creation from The Fresh Prince Of Baklava. They're popping up in Highpoint throughout December. Of course they've got your standard, mouth-watering, traditional Baklava, but then they take it one step further and blow your mind when they combine it with goodies like Nutella, Oreos, Tim Tams… Need we go on?

Melbourne Makeathon

This is probably one of the coolest events on this weekend. For 72 hours, tech heads, designers, engineers and programmers will mesh their brains together to come up with a product that'll help those in our disabled community. Pretty cool. Some past designs include a portable wheelchair ramp, and a custom-made bike. Get down and see how super clever people use their brains to help those in need.

Pop–up at Aeso Studio

Drag your housemates along to this design pop-up and gush over all things interior.  Design duo Ode and Elma have specifically created this range for colour lovers, and you’ll find a huge range of custom wallpapers, pendant lights, paintings, and just about anything else you need to stylishly decorate your apartment. Stray away from Melbourne monochrome and add some summer colour to your walls.

Latte Art Smackdown

The Younger Brother Café is doing their bit for Beyond Blue this Thursday night and they want you to join them. The gang have organised a DJ, BBQ, drinks… you know, the standard good time bits and bobs. Watch on as the latte pros try their hand at creating art on top of your coffee, and if anyone dares to question your Thursday night drinking habit, you can tell them it’s all for a fantastic cause.

Leftover Lovers at Queen Vic Market

You probably don’t even think twice about all the food you scrape into the bin, but you should. To help you save some extra beer money, Leftover Lovers are hosting a heap of free cooking demos that'll teach you how to be savvy in your meal planning, minimise your waste and use every last ingredient in your fridge. (Except maybe that cheese that’s been sitting there, throw that out pronto.)

Hunky Mos House Party

Hunky Dory wants all who were involved in this year's Movember to come down to their South Yarra store and celebrate the end of the mo. They're promising good vibes with a DJ, and the dudes from Uncle Rocco’s Barber Shop will be there too, shaving off Movember stash’s for free. Oh, and it’s a good excuse to chow down on some calamari.

AMF Bowling International Day of People with a Disability

As if we didn’t have enough reasons to love AMF bowling already (whoever says they don’t love bowling is lying), they're now hosting a fun-filled day of activities and free bowling for disabled people and their carers. As if that wasn’t cool enough, they're also giving people with a disability the chance to bowl half price all year round. Wax up that bowling ball, the lanes are calling!

Polo in the City

Everyone loves a good day out at the polo. The champas are flowing, the gals look pretty, and there’s a cool game to watch involving dudes on horses. Go fancy for the day, gather your nearest and dearest and head down to Polo in the City. There are tons of different packages to pick from, but no matter which level of lux you choose, you're guaranteed an amazing day out.

Barkly Square Open Air Cinema

Now in its second year, Barkly Square is launching Barkly Square Open Air Cinema programming with proceeds being donated to several charities throughout their summer series. Up first on Saturday is Amelie where proceeds go to The Brotherhood of St Laurence, and on Sunday you can check out A Dog's Purpose (which is dog-friendly btw) where proceeds will be going to Forever Friends Animal Rescue.

Lello Pasta Bar Cooking Demo

Ever wanted to know how the Italian pros get their pasta tasting so damn good? Here’s your chance. This Saturday, Lello’s executive chef will be running a free (yep, you heard that right) demonstration at South Melbourne Market, so you no longer have to spend your days sobbing over packet pasta wishing you knew the tricks of the trade.

Christmas Lunch at Melbourne Aquarium

Stray away from tradition this Christmas and spend it with the turtles at Melbourne Aquarium. The menu has all your usual Christmas day favourites like smoked ham, turkey and Christmas pudding with cream. There’s no seafood on the menu though, that would just be plain rude. We’re full just thinking about it. Walk off your lunch with a wander around the aquarium.

Grape Escape 2018

Oh hey, what do you know! Another Food and Wine festival—will we ever get enough? Swap the city market vibes for the Grampians next May as you feast your way through paella, pizza, burgers… you know how this goes. Zoo Twilights

Zoo Twilights is back at Melbourne Zoo this summer, and it’s bringing you a delicious lineup. With acts like Cut Copy, The Preatures and Jet, there’s something to please everyone. Animal lovers, you’ll be happy to know that your ticket money goes towards the fight against wildlife extinction, and you even get the chance to explore the zoo before settling on the lawn to hear your favourite artists play.
