Dig In To The Deep Dish Pizza Pie, Serving Up For A Limited Time At Arbory Afloat

By

A deep dish pizza on a round plate covered in red sauce.

We’ll cut to the chase because Arbory Afloat needs no introduction. Everyone’s favourite rivertop bar has just announced a new Detroit-style pizza pop-up. These deep-dish cheesy, gooey slices of pie are just in time for those cooler autumnal evenings.

The pizzas are the handiwork of Executive Chef Nick Bennett and resident pizza guru Salim Gafaryi, previously from Bar Nacional and Cecconi’s Flinders Lane—just one of the best Italian places in Melbourne: lowkey flex.

So what does ‘Detroit style’ mean? We’re glad you asked because we could talk about pizza all day. First of all they’re rectangular, measuring 8x10 inches—that’s about 20x25cm—and secondly, they’re cooked in deep pans for a fluffy base and crispy edge and generously doused in glorious cheesy goodness right to the edges. Then the sauce comes last, but don’t knock it until you try it—we’re looking at you, Lygon Street traditionalists.

There will be just 75 pizzas a day for you to get your mitts on, so we’d suggest ordering sooner rather than later. There are six indulgent flavours to choose from: margherita, pepperoni, supreme, vegetarian funghi and the special of the day.

Detroit pizzas are available at Arbory Afloat daily from 11:30am between Friday 12 March and Wednesday 31 March. They’re also offering special packages for groups of three to eight people, including snacks, pizzas and wine to share. Head to the website for all the info.

While you’re there, make sure you try the Four Pillars x Arbory Afloat Pink Gin collaboration.
