Arbory Afloat Is Packing Down And Going Into Hibernation For The Winter

By Simon Cassar

A shot of Arbory Afloat from a distance with the river and the city in the background.

It’s here, the event that finally stamps out any last chance of warm weather and ushers in Melbourne’s frosty period, Arbory Afloat is packing it up and hibernating for the winter.

After an absolutely stacked year that saw their very own collaboration with Four Pillars Gin, over 16,000 oysters shucked and put to the sword, and 123 crew members brought onboard to the Beach House-themed maritime venue, Arbory Afloat will shut its doors on Sunday 6 June.

2020 was a tough year and Arbory Afloat not only fuelled thousands of punters looking for a good time and to reconnect but also supported an absolute stack of local producers such as Hagens Organic Butcher and Clamms Seafood in an effort to champion homegrown businesses.

Celebrating its fifth year on the Yarra (Birrarung), the float started off as a temporary extension of the platform dwelling Abory Bar & Eatery and has now established itself as a true icon of the CBD. Whilst shut only briefly till early spring we can now let our imaginations fly as to what theme and delicious new additions the float will return with.
