Disco Down At This 1980s Tokyo-Inspired Rooftop Izakaya Taking Over Former Madame Brussels Digs
Jump in the DeLorean, we’re taking it back to the 80s with this new Tokyo-vibin’ rooftop izakaya taking over the former Madame Brussels spot.
Disuko, translating to “disco” in Japanese perfectly nails the vibe. Opening Tuesday, 18 November the soon-to-be hotspot is the latest offering from the MAMAS Dining Group who just last year launched Suzie Q southside.
Now they’re bringing that same neon-soaked energy of the 1980s to Bourke Street by way of Tokyo.
From midday through to late, the rooftop restaurant and bar moves seamlessly from sunlit lunches to high-energy nights soundtracked by vinyl spins and smooth Japanese soul. We’re feelin’ Shibuya meets Melbourne with all the crate diggin’ you can muster.
Inside, lacquered timber panelling, glowing amber accents, and disco balls set the scene for cocktails, sakes, and izakaya-style plates. The 8-metre bar glows in retro orange light as Bar Manager Joshuiea Scott shakes up highballs and signature creations, while DJs take to the decks behind him.
The menu, led by MAMAS Group’s Creative Culinary Director Stolley and Head Chef Hoa (ex-Nobu, ex-Kisumé), serves up playful Japanese fare—from prawn-stacked Fillet-O-Ebi Sandos and udon carbonara with dashi bacon, to Wagyu tataki, hibachi-grilled chicken, and fresh kingfish with yuzu soy.
For those chasing something more intimate, the eight-seat Omakase bar delivers a 12-course sushi and sashimi experience right in front of the chefs—lit to feel like sunset in Tokyo.
As summer hits, the terracotta terrace will be the place to perch, offering sweeping city views, cocktails in hand, and that golden-hour glow. Every detail at Disuko hums with nostalgic rhythm—from the custom kumiko wood boomboxes to the disco-drenched soundtrack that ties it all together.
Disuko opens Tuesday, 18 November at Level 3/59-63 Bourke Street, Melbourne CBD. For more info and bookings, head over here.
