Music fans who have been eagerly holding their breath for a Kendrick Lamar tour in Australia can finally exhale. Today, it was announced that the Pulitzer Prize-winning rapper will be bringing his Grand National Tour to Australia in December.
The good news is that Lamar will be performing two solo shows in Sydney and Melbourne. The bad news is that it doesn't look like SZA, who has been co-headlining the North American and European legs of the tour, will be joining.
These solo tour dates have been eagerly anticipated since it was announced that Lamar will be headlining Spilt Milk festival this year. There he'll be joined by Doechii, Sara Landry and Dominic Fike, with the music festival taking place in Ballarat, Perth, Canberra and the Gold Coast across December. Although at the time of writing, most of these shows have sold out, a hint of what's to come with these Grand National Tour shows.
With only two dates announced, it's safe to say that grabbing tickets to these shows is going to be easier said than done. If these gigs are even half as good as Lamar's recent Super Bowl Halftime Show, then it'll all be worth it.
Lamar has firmly established himself as one of, if not the biggest name in rap over the past decade, resposnbile for some all-time great albums like To Pimp a Butterfly and Damn. His latest album, GNX, was surprise-released in November 2024 to widespread acclaim, ending up on multiple Best Albums of 2024 lists.
While GNX was a strong entry in an already great body of work, it's fair to say it wasn't the rapper's most popular release that year. That would be the single Not Like Us, an absolute belter of a diss track that spun out from Lamar's incredibly public feud with Drake.
If you've somehow missed one of the biggest songs of last year—it was nominated for and won seven Grammy Awards—you've got a few months to learn all the lyrics ahead of those Sydney and Melbourne shows.
