In a time of serious inflation and belt-tightening, the exorbitant spending rituals are typically kicked to the curb. However, if you are looking to splash, there are a few dishes around town that help make some noise and lighten the wallet.

Here's where to find the most expensive dishes in Melbourne for 2022:

The Boeuf En Croute | Society $325

Encased in a golden lattice of pastry, Society's 'Boeuf En Croute' is an absolute masterpiece. Coming in at a sizeable $325 and serving up to four, the dialled-up beef wellington is well worth it. With a perfectly medium rare 480g tenderloin wrapped in pastry with a finely diced mushroom Duxelle and prosciutto, which is then sliced tableside and served up with a lashing of Madeira jus.

The Wagyu Katsu Sando | Niku Ou, $228

Niku Ou's dialling up the steak sanga. Sandwiched in a soft spongy Shokupan-style bread the Kobe-beef tenderloin is cooked to medium rare perfection and due to the incredibly low-melting point quite literally emulsifies in your mouth. Adorned with gold leaf flakes and slathered with a sweet-and-salty Katsu sauce this is one sando you ain't ever gonna forget.

The Gold Kebab | Tulum, $1500

This is where things start to wild, Tulum the quaint Balaclava diner on Carlslile Street has released their version of the kebab, a considerably more expensive number than your typical late-night options. Coming in at a whopping $1500, Tulum's variation uses a dry-aged Wagyu with a 9+ marble score which is then rubbed in a Turkish coffee butter and coated in gold leaf, Beluga caviar and black truffle shavings—all served up on a potato and cumin flatbread.

The Caviar And Lobster Experience | Pearl Oyster & Chablis $1450

One that requires ordering 24 hours in advance, Pearl Oyster & Chablis'piece de resistance is an indulgent combination of lobster and caviar. A true treasure trove of the ocean, this is an entire Southern Rock lobster that is poached in butter and then served up with heapings of Russian Osetra and Siberian caviar.
