Victorians Will Be Able To Touch On And Off Public Transport With Smart Phones And Bank Cards

By

Public Transport Minister Ben Carroll has announced that American company Conduent Business Services has been awarded Victoria’s public transport ticketing contract.

Conduent Business Services will take over from Myki in December this year as part of a 15 year contract, and with it will bring several changes to the way Victorians interact with public transport.

The news many have been hoping for is the ability to use smart devices (iOS and android), smartwatches, as well as bank cards to touch on and off. It won’t happen overnight, however, with trials set to begin in early 2024, and a wider roll-out expected in 2025.

And while the state will see an entirely new operating system and parent company in charge of our public transport ticketing, Conduent will continue the name Myki, with Carroll stating that the brand awareness is strong with Victorians.
