The Best Cakes In Melbourne In 2025
When it comes to bakeries, it’s easy to say that Melburnians are spoiled for choice because… well, we are. Like a kid in a candy store, choosing can be a gruelling task—but with a bucket list of destinations to choose from, it gets a little easier. Topping our list is Food Voyageur in Balaclava, from Instagram creator Rachi Fernandopulle.
Whether you’re a fan of quirky flavours like passionfruit cheesecake and strawberry matcha, or a sucker for classics like her best-selling red velvet, it’s a spot you have to check out.
But how does she make cakes so good? “I do the best cupcakes in Melbourne because I eat them all,” Fernandopulle tells us. Talk about a dream job…
“I thought all my funky flavours would do well, but the red velvet just sells out so much. It’s the best velvet in Melbourne,” Fernandopulle says. In Melbourne’s vast bakery scene, it isn’t presumptuous to say it’s hard to get a successful business up and running, but Rachi reckons she’s cracked the code.
“For me, it has been a lot about authenticity. Although [the bakery scene is] overpopulated, I think we’re getting somewhere. It’s a lot of love and care; I do it all myself,” Fernandopulle says.
After more cake options? Urban List has done the grunt work for you, whittling down some of the best cakes in Melbourne into one easy list to tick off.
Without further ado, these are Melbourne’s best cakes for 2025. Happy feasting!

The place to go for all viral cakes is Food Voyageur in Balaclava. Owned and operated by Instagram creator Rachi Fernandopulle, this Barbie-esque cake store is the epitome of perfection.
Fernandopulle has been whipping up tasty creations since 2019; however, she only recently graced Melbourne with a store of her own, even featuring limited edition cakes, inspired by trending flavours like Dubai chocolate.
“I get really inspired by flavours when I travel, recently went to Turkey, and I really love their flavours, so I'm launching a cupcake with Turkish flavours in the month of September,” Fernandopulle says.

From cheesecakes and macaron cakes (yes, macaron cakes) to the viral vintage-style birthday cakes, it’s clear there’s nothing that Dreami Cake doesn’t take pride in. Only recently opened in 2019, they have cemented themselves as a destination cake spot in Melbourne with a huge range of fruity cakes to eat your way through.

A Little Something Cake
357 Collins Street, Melbourne CBD
It’s about this time in the list where we start to lose your attention, so allow me to draw you back in with two words. Boba cake. For anyone who never grew out of the boba craze, like me, a boba cake sounds like a dream too good to be true, but not at A Little Something Cake. And it doesn’t end there, with plenty of other contemporary and quirky flavours to explore. Pop into 357 Collins St, Melbourne, to try out some of their daily fresh-baked cakes.
Azuo

Apicius said we eat first with our eyes. If that’s really true, then be careful you don’t get too full. stepping into Azuo. For fruit lovers like myself, Azuo is the place to be, with options including lychee, strawberry and even durian, all in perfectly portioned boxes if you’re not into sharing (because who is?). And for anyone who tends to get the late-night munchies, then fear not, Azuo is open until 9pm from Sunday to Thursday and until 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
Le Petit Gateau
458 Little Collins Street, Melbourne CBD
It’s not every day you come across a bakery with cakes that look straight out of a movie. Or maybe it is, considering how many are already on this list. Either way, Le Petit Gateau, located on Little Collins St, Melbourne, is the place to go for gorgeous cakes across a plethora of flavours. For the perfectly Instagrammable experience, head to the store and check out their Lychee Parfait.
Her Little Pastisserie
Unit 1/607 Elizabeth Street, Melbourne CBD
From ice cream cups to smoothies and fruit bowls, it will always be the cakes at Her Little Patisserie that stand out. With an irresistible list of cakes to choose from, I would have to seriously advise against going to Her Little Patisserie for all the indecisive sweet tooths out there. If it’s a Pavlova you’re after, it’s the Tiramisu catching your eye, and if it’s the red velvet you set your heart on, it’s their classic brownie that’s making your mouth water.

With rotating weekend specials and only a short trip from Carnegie station, T6 Patisserie is the place to gorge yourself, however you like your cake.
Lovey Patisserie
Melbourne CBD & Doncaster
I’m sure you’ve heard of carrot cake, even lychee cake, but have you heard of Pineapple Carrot Shortcake, or Sakura Lychee Panna Cotta? If the answer is yes, then I’ll assume you’ve already visited Lovey Patisserie. With cakes all things Smiski, Jellycat and Miffy inspired, they might just be too cute to eat. Visit their iconic Doncaster location or head into their second CBD location at 26 Berrbang Lane for a feed.
Laurent Bakery
Various Locations
If there’s anything to be taken from this list so far, it’s that Little Collins Street is not the place to be if you’re easily tempted by desserts, and unfortunately (or fortunately—depending on how you look at it), Laurent Bakery is no exception. Specialising in authentic French recipes and contemporary twists, their lemon sponge ‘Guido’ cake is a must-try. With locations all over Melbourne, operating since 1993, there’s a reason why Laurent Bakery is a must-visit.
