Melbourne’s 10,000sqm foodie precinct, Grazeland, is getting a vegan shakeup over the next two weeks. The team at The V Spot will be hanging up their aprons and handing over the keys to their shipping container to Masterchef alumnus Simon Toohey, and his co-pilot Renee Buckingham from Melbourne Vegan Guide for their Plants on Fire menu.
The menu is packed with a whole lot of smokey goodness, fuelled by Simon’s love of barbecue cooking. Expect to see vegan takes on some classics including Southern style broccolini and cauli leaf wings with truff hot sauce, deep-fried pickles with smoked dill sour cream and barbecue corn ribs. They’ve also teamed up with the mushroom masterminds behind Fable Food Co. to produce loaded fries with chipotle mayo as well as a Fable roll with smoked mayo and Frankies pickles.
To all the carnivorous types who may be skeptical, rest assured, they’ve tested these dishes on meat-eaters who gave rave reviews. Plus, these two have years of experience in the hospitality industry and they’ve dedicated a fair chunk of that time to advocating for the versatility and down-right deliciousness of humble veg.
The pop-up will run over two weekends, starting this Friday 2 July to Sunday 4 July then wrapping up from Friday 9 July to Sunday 11 July. They’ll be serving up their menu from 5pm until they’re sold out. See more info on the Facebook event here.
