The Verdict

Ovolo Laneways is one of the ‘new breed’ Melbourne hotels. Which means they’re big on added extras, little conveniences and high-speed, free-flowing WIFI.

If you haven’t heard of Ovolo, it’s a new designer hotel that’s popped up on Little Bourke St. A little urban staycation bunker, inspired by the city’s famous laneways. That means specially commissioned street art on the wall, slick furnishings and FREE in-room snacks (!!). Your basic Studio also comes with a walk-in rain shower, bathroom goodies from Biology, Apple TV as standard and FREE mini-bar snacks. Yep, everything in that mini-bar is yours. Go nuts.

Better yet, if you book direct through the Ovolo Laneways site, you get a free brekky AND free Happy Hour. Pretty much the only thing you’re paying for is the super comfy Queen Bed.

The location is pretty choice too, especially if you’re staying in town for a theatre show—it’s right up the top end of Little Bourke St, near Parliament, The Regent Theatre and the Princess Theatre. Our tip for dinner? Take your pick from Rice Paper Scissors, Juliet, Izakaya Den, Cumulus or Butcher’s Diner, then follow it up with cocktails at Hihou. Pretty Melbourne night, right there.

Big occasion to celebrate? (Or big brownie points needed?) Give the team a call and ask about the Terrace and Penthouse Suites. They sound like you’d have to sell a kidney just to get in, but the prices are very reasonable. Especially when you check out those views...
