THE VERDICT

South Melbourne has always been a foodie hotspot with the iconic South Melbourne Market, but as of late, there have been more venues popping up left, right and centre. We welcomed UGO Burrata Bar with open arms in January, a flashy Mediterranean restaurant called Lucia swung open it’s doors this month (more on this soon), and mega Brewmanity is gracing the inner suburb any day. Now, cult-followed craft beer Pirate Life is opening its first venue in Victoria after a slew of spots across the nation.

Taking over what was once a mechanic workshop on Market Street just off City Road, Pirate Life South Melbourne promises one hella good time. The beers are coming straight from Pirate Life HQ in South Australia slinging from sixteen taps, the food is looking electric, and the revamped space will seat up to 220 revellers.

You can order everything from snacks and plates “by the kilo”, headed up by two well-versed chefs Maria Delengas and Nicolas Lopez. Slated to be loud and smoky straight from an open-fire kitchen, Delengas and Lopez are pouring their South American and Greek roots into the collaborative menu. We’re particularly excited for the fried bug sando with pickled jalapeno and aioli, the raw bonito with burnt lemon, and the low and slow asado beef ribs.

Don’t sweat it if beer isn’t your choice of tipple. The team have on-boarded sommelier Foni Pollitt who’s bringing a wine list of sustainable and organic drops from Australia and Europe.

Pirate Life South Melbourne will be taking in punters seven days a week for lunch and dinner. Book your spot from Thursday 14th onwards over here.

Sebastian

San Sebastian is a desired travel destination known for its top-notch cuisine and sandy  village energy—and definitely not something you would expect to find on the shores of Williamstown Beach. Yet here we are, a restaurant that will have you feeling like you’re holidaying in the Basque region.
