A Shed Is Turning 100—And Gage Roads Wants Your Stories

One of Fremantle’s most recognisable waterfront landmarks is turning 100, and Gage Roads is asking the community to help tell its story.

A Shed, now home to Gage Roads Freo, has stood on the Fremantle waterfront for a century, evolving from a working port shed into one of the city’s best-known waterfront venues. To mark the milestone, Gage Roads is calling on anyone with a connection to the building to share their photos, memories and stories.

Maybe you celebrated a milestone there, have an old family photo from the Fremantle waterfront or remember A Shed from its days before Gage Roads moved in—the brewery wants to hear it all. You can submit stories through the dedicated 100 Years Of A Shed website, and selected memories may be featured in a heritage exhibition in the venue’s heritage-listed Clerk’s Office later in October.

The celebrations will continue throughout October with free heritage tours running every Saturday and Sunday at 3pm, plus an immersive exhibition of historic photographs and community stories over the final weekend of the month. You’ll also be able to record your memories in person using the Telephone Audio Guestbook or leave them behind on postcards.

And because no birthday is complete without a beer, Gage Roads is releasing Big Hundo – Centennial Ale, a limited-edition, fresh and citrus-driven Pale Ale brewed with Centennial hops.

Gage Roads will also share the stories uncovered from the community through its A Shed Stories content series.

Whether you worked at A Shed, visited for a celebration or remember the building from another era, this is your chance to add your chapter to 100 years of Fremantle history.
