Ever wanted to live out your Night At The Museum fantasies and see if the Mummies really come to life when night falls? The WA Museum Boola Bardip is giving you the chance to get up close and personal (but hopefully not too close) with over 240 stunning rare treasured Egyptian antiquities all the way from the celebrated Rijksmuseum van Oudheden in the Netherlands. Their hot new Discovering Ancient Egypt exhibition showcases everything from intricately decorated coffins, mummies, extracts from the Book of the Dead, to shimmering jewels and all sorts of other mind-blowing relics.
Running until 8 October, head there while the sun’s up for some inspiring specialist talks, tours, school holiday and family fun, or if you’re a serious adventure seeker, take a visit to their awesome pop-up Afterlife Bar kicking off every Friday night where you’ll be able to graze on mezze boards, share a drink or two among artefacts and be guided by experts into some of the strange and unknown juicy secrets of Ancient Egypt. Even cooler still, check out the cutting-edge interactive CT scan results taken on a bunch of the mummified humans and animals dating back over 3000 years.
As part of the Revelation Film Festival on Friday 14 July, you can also catch the super exclusive one-night-only screening of the iconic 1959 horror classic The Mummy while sitting directly under Otto the famous blue whale in the glorious Hackett Hall.
If you’re thirsty for even more knowledge, the WA Museum houses more than eight million objects across their whopping seven hubs around the state. The aim is to completely shake things up, creating a safe haven for sometimes unsafe conversations, being evocative in its big questions, all while emphasising the importance of contemporary and engaging hands-on adventures for visitors away from the dull outdated ways of staring at objects through a thick glass barrier.
With a constantly rotating smorgasbord of iconic exhibits, mind-blowing STEM advancements and digital experiences that will level up your dinner party conversations and introduce you to all sorts of wild historical concepts, we think there’s no better winter destination for getting out of the cold and rain.
