Good news, your search for the ultimate pub—that is perfect for both family hangs and catch ups with your crew—is over. After a two-year, $7-million reno, The Bassendean Hotel has finally swung open its doors—and the results are seriously epic.
Housed in a historic 1930s building in the heart of Bassendean, the venue is set to become your go-to venue for good times all summer long. The sprawling spot, fondly dubbed The Basso, now has a capacity for 750 people and comprises six bars (including a speakeasy and sports bar) and nine zones—so you can come back week after week and still discover something new.
The venue's multi-million-dollar reno has made maintained its charm and character, paying homage to its nearly 100-year history throughout. In the Club Room, you'll find memorabilia and black-and-white pictures of locals lining the walls and Daphne's Snug, which is a cosy spot for special occasions, pays tribute to the private pub rooms women gathered in back in the day.
Families are also in for a serious treat at The Basso, with the pub boasting a state-of-the-art bespoke playground filled with interactive games that will keep kids busy for hours on end. Housed in a lush courtyard, the playground is an ideal space for parents to kick back, soak up the good vibes and enjoy a tasty tipple or two while the rugrats run wild.
When the kids are well and truly tuckered out, The Basso has you covered yet again with a menu designed specifically with little tummies in mind. You'll find serves of buttermilk fried chicken, cheeseburgers, fish and chips and more. All of the meals are served with pop-top juice, veggie sticks, hummus and a frog in a pond jelly dessert to finish, too.
For the adults, the feasts on offer are truly tasty. Start with a plate of freshly shucked oysters, Shark Bay scallops and burrata with stone fruit. There are also woodfired pizzas on offer—the confit garlic with potato, wild honey and rosemary is a game changer—plus, burgers and a classic parmi.
For something special, order the golden ricotta gnocchi, Humpty Doo barramundi and Stirling Ranges porterhouse. Those with a sweet tooth will want to round out their meal with their old-school banana split complete with chocolate sauce, coconut ice cream, sprinkles and a cherry on top.
The drinks menu is equally impressive, with a generous offering of local wines and beers and a concise but tasty list of cocktails. Pro tip: order the cherry cola iced tea and thank us later.
Perhaps our favourite thing about the hotel is that it’s pooch-friendly, so you can bring your four-legged mates with you. Snag a seat with your pup in the large courtyard or front veranda and treat them to a doggie brew from Beer Farm. Yep, you and your pooch can sip it up side by side. See? We told you this place was going to become your new favourite.
Keen to get your crew down to The Bassendean Hotel stat? We thought so. The Basso is open Monday to Sunday, from 11am until late and features live music on weekends. And because the crew at The Bassendean Hotel are absolute legends, they’re dishing out $250 vouchers to spend at the pub. Simply sign up for its newsletter before 2 November to go into the running.
