South Perth’s New Asian-Fusion Is Inspired By The Smoke And Spice Of Bangla Road
Come nightfall, Phuket's Bangla Road comes to life. Hungry hordes swarm the strip, their faces lit up the artifical neon light of overhead signs, the air thick with smoke rising from streetside market stalls, the air hot, sticky and spice-scented. That's the kind of after-dark energy inspiring BANGLA, a new Asian eating house opening in South Perth.
From the team behind Lotus, KARLA and Tonic + Ginger, expectations are understandably high. Taking over the former Ludo space, BANGLA promises bold flavours, vibrant cocktails and an intoxicating atmosphere.

It's a fitting move from the Nokturnl team, already behind some of Perth's most-loved Asian dining concepts. Leading the kitchen is group exec chef Sundoo Kim, the driving force behind the group's existing portfolio since opening Lotus at The Beaufort in 2022. He'll be joined by new head chef Thanapat "Teddy" Rattichot.
Rather than focusing on one particular cuisine or region, the menu will pull inspiration from across Asia, drawing on the flavours, techniques and dining cultures Kim has spent years immersed in, so naturally you can expect bold, share-style dishes and plenty of spice. While details of the menu are still under wraps, the concept promises to draw inspiration from Asia's most vibrant dining districts, pairing punchy flavours with colourful cocktails and a little late-night mischief.

According to Nokturnl co-director Ross Drennan, the venue represents the next evolution of the group's growing love affair with Asian dining.
"Over the years, Asian cuisine has become such an important part of our identity and we've built an incredible pool of talent around that passion," Drennan said.
BANGLA is expected to open Friday 19 June.
