Block Out Your Calendar, We’ve Curated The Best FRINGE WORLD Events To See With Your Crew

By Rebecca Keating
14th Jan 2021

We’re counting down the days until FRINGE WORLD hits our shores and we’re oh-so-ready to take on the challenge of bingeing on as many shows as we can. With over 500 events to choose from, this year’s lineup has us feeling all sorts of excited.

From ridiculously-hilarious comedy shows to awe-inspiring circus acts and late-night debauchery, we’ve rounded up the best shows to get tickets to, stat. Whether you’re heading out with the fam, your best mates, or for a cheeky date night special we have you sorted.

Spice Up Date Night

Hot Sauce Burlesque

The Hat Trick at The Woodside Pleasure Garden
Thursday, January 28 – Sunday, February 7

In the mood for a saucy date night? Look no further. The devoted team behind Hot Sauce Burlesque have done us all a favour and quarantined in the middle of Summer to bring you a night of chilli-hot burlesque and outrageous comedy. This one’s guaranteed to thrill.

The Underground

Home Economics at Girls School
Wednesday, January 27 – Wednesday, February 3

Bringing the heat to FRINGE, The Underground premieres at this year’s festival inviting you to an exclusive Latin RnB club. Mesmerising dancers, heady vocals and live percussion make for a mysterious and electrifying show to get your hands on.

Drag Queen Comedy Hour

The Megamouth at The Woodside Pleasure Garden
Friday, January 15 – Saturday, January 30

In our humble opinion, it is impossible to see a drag show and not leave as a happy person. Pair this with debaucherous comedy served up by some of Perth’s funniest ladies in Drag Queen Comedy Hour and we promise you will not leave without a stitch. Hilarious lip syncs, adults-only drag stories and some very cheeky jokes will have you laughing from the moment you enter the abode.

Adults Only Magic Show

Main Hall at Girls School
Friday, January 15 – Saturday, February 13

This hour of raucous comedy, hypnotising illusions and very dangerous stunts is sure to light up any date night. Magic duo Sam & Justin have curated the Adults Only Magic Show to impress even the fussiest FRINGE friends. Did we mention there’s free drinks for volunteers? Count us in.

Get The Crew Together

The Edith Spiegeltent at The Woodside Pleasure Garden
Friday, January 15 – Saturday, February 13

If you and your crew are up for something spicy, the incredible acts of Circus’Cision feature some very sexy and seriously-talented acrobatics that will have you feeling all sorts of cheeky and in awe. We’ve gotta warn you, this one has a bit of nudity but no complaints here.

Cultural Renegades

Lotterywest De Parel Spiegeltent at The Woodside Pleasure Garden
Wednesday, January 27 – Sunday, January 31

Cultural Renegades are bringing their signature style to Perth with Hip Hop and Dancehall that will make you feel like you’re really part of the show. The act explores defying cultural barriers through movement and poetry, encouraging unity and freedom of expression. This one will take you back to a time where cipher circles (aka a kind of break dancing circle) dominated the dance floor on a night out.

Big Stupid Fun Club

Kitson Room at Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough
Wednesday, February 3 – Friday, February 12

Known as the most ridiculous night out at FRINGE, Big Stupid Fun Club is the place to go for a night of extreme silliness and laughs. Misbehaved cabaret, magic acts and comedy in the heart of Scarborough, hanging out with internally acclaimed party icon Tomás Ford from Crap Music Rave Party is a night you and your crew won’t forget.

Jon Bennett: How I Learned To Love

Friday, January 15 – Saturday, January 30

A true story of love, loss, sex and hugging recited to an airport security guard that resembles a combination of our two fave hip hop peeps- none other than Jay-Z and Queen Bey, all while being detained as a suspected terrorist in Montreal Airport. How I Learned To Love might sound a little strange but we reckon the host Jon Bennett, a world-renowned and award-winning comedic storyteller has hit the nail on the head.

FRINGE With The Fam

Leaping Lillies

Studio Underground at State Theatre Centre of WA
Friday, January 15 – Monday, January 25

An all-girl circus adventure, Leaping Lillies stars three Perth-based acrobatic and circus performers constantly up to no good. With a hankering for mischief and pushing themselves to the edge, these gals know how to put on a show. Perfect for little and big FRINGE fans alike, this one ticks all the boxes for a family day out.

A Circus Sensation

The Edith Spiegeltent at The Woodside Pleasure Garden
Friday, January 15 – Sunday, January 31

We say it once, we say it again. There’s nothing more we love than a jaw-dropping circus. The nationally and internally-acclaimed crew behind ZAP CIRCUS are bringing their all-time favourite circus stunts to Perth for A Circus Sensation and we couldn’t be more excited. There’ll be a whole lot going on to feast your FRINGE eyes on—think fire-eating, hula hooping, acrobatics and comedy. You’ll be sitting on the edge of your seat for sure.

Clean Comedy

Comedy Lounge Perth City
Saturday, January 16 and Saturday, January 23

Fancy a bit of comedy with your uber-cool fam? Clean Comedy brings you a bunch of FRINGE acts from around the country minus the foul language and naughty bits you’re too shy to see in front of mum. So you can breathe easy and get ready for a good ol’ fashioned laugh.

Jammin on the Boardwalk

Amphitheatre at Hillarys Boardwalk
Saturday, February 13

Calling all musos -  if you can sing, play the guitar, drums, a fiddle or anything in between, Jammin on the Boardwalk wants you. Paying homage to the rock n roll souls of Lleida in Spain, this immersive music experience is looking for artists to deliver 200 performances as they seek to get ready to break the world record in 2022.
