Is there anything more quintessentially West Australian than coastal dining, a drink in hand as the sun sets over the ocean? It’s no surprise, then, that City Beach boasts some great seats to sit, sip and savour the ocean views.
From occasion dining to casual fish and chips (because fish and chips on the beach is a Perth rite of passage), this is where you should be eating in City Beach.

Bert’s City Beach

If you grew up near City Beach, chances are you’ve heard of the original Bert’s—the iconic surf kiosk that was a local hangout from the ’50s to the early ’60s. Now, it's making a comeback, and ready to serve a whole new generation of sandy-footed surfers and local grommets as it takes over the old Odyssea spot in late August.
Light, breezy and effortlessly timeless, Bert’s delivers ageless coastal cools with pale timbers, soft textures and linen touches, sandy neutrals and muted tones with shades of blush pink and terracotta, all inspired by the iconic WA sunset you’ll catch through the windows each night.
Order plates like cured salmon with miso passionfruit and roe, wagyu beef tartare and sweet and sour cauliflower popcorn, rounded out with a few rounds of tacos or housemade pizza, with sourdough bases made from a ten-year-old starter courtesy of General Public Food Co. Add a few rounds of signature cocktails and you’ve got the makings of a pretty perfect beachside eatery.
INSIDER INTEL
- Arrive early or book ahead to snag a patio table with a killer ocean view.
- Bring a jumper for when the Freo Doctor rolls in—or order another cocktail and dive into the steak with salsa verde and chips, it absolutely hits the spot.
Hamptons City Beach

City Beach’s OG upscale eatery Hamptons is still going strong, and remains one of our favourite spots for a coastal cocktail. Stunner views, plenty of oceanfront, alfresco seating, and a local seafood-packed menu. It’s a bit of a no brainer. Hamptons is open all day, and if you’re up for an early dip we highly recommend grabbing breakfast here afterwards—the strawberry shortcake pancakes will satisfy any sweet tooth, while the brekky bagel, complete with sunny-side-up egg and hash brown, is a great choice for something a little saltier.
INSIDER INTEL:
- Bring your pups, because Hamptons is dog friendly on the deck.
- Sunday breakfast is busy here, so be prepared for a little wait on your eggs on toast. But that’s just an excuse to sip on a morning mimosa if you ask us.
Clancy's Fish Pub

Nothing says summer in Perth quite like tucking into a big old serve of fish and chippies with your mates after a dip at the beach. And with its beachfront location, there's really no better spot than Clancy's City Beach. The Beach Bar is open from 6.30am til sundown with the restaurant open from 11.30am til late so you can wander straight off the beach and into a cracking brekky, lunch or dinner—with the option to take your feed down to the beach for a picnic if you prefer.
INSIDER INTEL
- Clancy’s has plenty of seating where you can take in the City Beach views, but it is essential that at least once you enjoy your fish and chips right down on the sand—trust us, it just tastes better this way—but note takeaway ends at sundown.
- It might look casual, but Clancy’s does a whole lot more than fish and chips. Give their beer battered tacos or brioche fish burger a go next time you’re there.
