Morley Galleria is finally getting upgraded, as Vicinity Centres team up with Perron Group to deliver a $240 million redevelopment of the once-beloved Perth shopping hub. This marks the biggest transformation the site has ever seen since it opened more than 30 years ago.
What Will The New Galleria Have In Store?
Galleria plans to welcome nearly 100 new stores, including a handpicked selection of Australia’s most popular brands. As part of the $240 million overhaul, dining at the Galleria is being reimagined too. The new retail precinct will include a vibrant new indoor-outdoor dining and entertainment area, featuring a contemporary tavern, and an alfresco area called The Terrace.
A new cinema is also a planned upgrade, to fill the hole left by the bittersweet closure of local fave Greater Union Cinemas (RIP to that heady popcorn smell that used to fill the centre).
Fast food and restaurants will shift closer to the cinema, creating a centre that blends food and entertainment, while the existing food court will be replaced with new retailers in fashion, youth, and electronics.
Galleria operators have assured the community that more details will be shared as plans progress. Thankfully, with construction now officially underway, completion is expected by late 2026.
What Happened To Morley Galleria?
The infamous Morley Galleria was initially planned to receive a glow-up in 2013, with revised designs worth $350 million approved in 2019 by the same creative team behind Melbourne’s Chadstone and Emporium. However, by 2024, only minor upgrades had been made, which prompted thousands of locals to sign petitions demanding some kind of action.
Galleria says the delays were largely out of their control, with WA’s construction boom, labour shortages and supply chain issues as key causes of the delay.
While it might not feature the original architecture from the 80’s, the construction happening over the next year is set to bring back the buzz that once made Morley Galleria an iconic shopping centre, only now with a much more contemporary twist, that will hopefully keep doors open for generations to come.
