From a breezy jungle hideaway in Tulum to an arty escape in Japantown in San Francisco, and a sleek, sunny sanctuary in the heart of trendy West Hollywood—Kimpton Hotels sure know how to pick a striking destination. Their latest muse? Sydney, of course.

In the heart of the Sydney CBD, Kimpton Margot is the first Kimpton property to open in Australia, and we think this stunning new pet-friendly five-star hotel is a whole new reason to book a luxe Sydney getaway. Or, if you’re local, a well-deserved city staycation.

Kimpton picked the former Sydney Water Board building on Pitt Street as its first home Down Under, and it’s refreshing to see the grand Art Deco dame land in such deserving hands. The hotel brand is loved around the world for its design kudos, and the Kimpton team has taken great care with the site, peppering it with beautiful design details.

The foyer is breathtaking—eight beautifully restored crimson-coloured Scagliola pillars stand guard over the cavernous space, which is softened with plush velvet lounges in silver and pink, fresh botanicals, and a dreamy gin-inspired fragrance. As you enter, you'll encounter a sculpture by Australian artist Tony Twigg—a custom piece and just one part of the hotel's 600-piece art collection, spread across all nine floors.

The 172 rooms follow the building's Art Deco theme. Sweeping high ceilings are decorated with whimsical wall art from a roster of international artists and furnishings are modern, but still a nod to the site's storied past. It's timeless meets modern—with each room fitted a Smart TV and Chromecast streaming, Mr Smith products, a curated playlist to set the mood, and a minibar with a dedicated nightcap menu. Need to stretch it out? There's plenty of room to do so—and yoga mats and accessories are available upon request and complimentary video workouts care of the hotel's partnership with Egg of the Universe.

Notably, most rooms feature enormous tubs too—definitely a plus in the Sydney hotel scene, where space rarely allows such luxury.

Another highlight of the Kimpton experience is its locally loved restaurants. In this case, Kimpton has revived a Sydney favourite: Luke's Kitchen, led by award-winning chef and restauranteur Luke Mangan has opened at the Kimpton Margot. Blending his signature Asian, European and modern Australian influences, Mangan's menu goes from a la carte breakfast to casual lunch, and charming dinner, all within a sleek, spacious dining room lined with touches of velvet and brass.

We're especially keen on Saturdays at Margot's—a bottomless brunch complete with a roving Bloody Mary cart and live music. For something extra special, book a spot in Cellar by Luke. This private dining experience is hosted within the hotel's stunning cellar room, and it can be tailored to your liking. Sip and swirl your way through an impressive collection of wines, pair it with a sit-down degustation—the choice is yours. Make sure you're around for Kimpton Margot's nightly social hour too, where complimentary drinks (cocktails or boutique wines, depending on the night) are poured in the foyer from 5pm - 6pm.

Need more convincing to book a stay? For city exploring, there are Lekker bikes to borrow in the lobby; there's an enormous rooftop terrace and lap pool, and an excellent “Forgot it, we’ve got it” concierge program too, where GHD hair tech, pocket squares, shoe shines, dry shampoo, and more are all available on call for you.

As an added bonus, Kimpton Margot is now the official partner of Moulin Rouge! The Musical—so you expect to see some Parisian-inspired specials popping up at the hotel soon.
